BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Canada and Argentina have two very different sets of priorties heading into Monday's international soccer friendly in Buenos Aires.
Watch it live on all four Sportsnet channels beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
For the visitors, it's a chance to compete against one of the world's best teams as they build for the future.
For Argentina, meanwhile, the game is a part of the final preparations as the country prepares for next month's World Cup in South Africa.

Soccerrrrr!!!!!

YES! You can actually SEE who is playing - no massive protective gear, no helmets. Each person playing is actually looks the size they are. There's speed, grace and skill - hey, what's not to like?
Not only that, it's a sport that is very egalitarian. you don't need a lot of money to play and it encompasses both genders.

I, too, am eagerly looking forward to the World Cup. And, of course, the Tour de France long with Wimbledon. Today, it's Giro d'Italia, West Indies-South Africa ODI (Safas won 300-5 > 283 All Out), and Super League rugby as Leeds > Bradford 26-12.

I mentioned above of my great love for lacrosse, especially for the Syracuse Orange. The team has fallen on bad times lately and one of the biggest reasons is that the team no longer grants scholarships based on what is called legacy. That is when players have younger family members join the team in later years. For decades the Orange had great Native American players from several families including the Abrams, Bucktooth, & Powless. Cuse fans expected the Thompsons to join that elite group but the school failed to give them scholarships on the grounds that their English proficiency fell below certain standards. The Thompsons grew up in a Mohawk rez and were not taught English until they were about 13 so it stands to reason that they may have some limits on English proficiency. But this does not mean they are incapable of excelling in the class room in this or any other subject. As a partially learning disabled person I know that for a fact.

Well, what goes around comes around. And recently Cuse was beaten by Albany State (a very good academic institution) which has recently upgraded its lax program:

High Lacrosse IQ: Albany's Thompson Attack | Lacrosse All Stars

''Lyle, Miles, and Ty Thompson all play attack for Albany. Lyle and Miles are brothers, and their older brother, Jeremy, played at Syracuse before joining the ranks of the NLL and MLL. When the Thompsons chose Albany over Cuse, the lacrosse world was shocked, and now it looks like that recruiting coup is really paying off. Jerome Thompson is the fourth brother, and he played at OCC. Ty is the cousin of Lyle and Miles.''

About two years ago, we Cuse fans had a massive exchange of often angry forum posts on this subject. Many of us knew that it was essential that the school maintain its legacy grants and that a reasonable academic accommodation be given to them. This would have insured that they would be on the team and our chances of staying in the Top Ten would be greatly enhanced. The school refused to follow our advice. The result? BOOM! A major loss. And the future does not look quite as bright.

I've been watching both darts and snooker on the telly.

The darts is the Cash Converters Players Finals held at the Butlins holiday resort in Minehead, Somerset. Here's the highlights of a match from a couple or so days ago between England's Jamie "Jabba" Caven and England's Colin "Jaws" Lloyd:

The snooker is the UK Snooker Championship 2013. Here's a Round 1 match from a few days ago between China's Liang Wenbo, ranked number 26 in the world, and England's Elliot Slessor, who is playing his debut season on the tour:

And a few weeks back, snooker's 888casino Champion of Champions tournament took place at Coventry's Ricoh Arena, the first time the tournament has been played since 1980. Here's the highlights of the Final between the mighty Ronnie O'Sullivan and Stuart Bingham, with the match at 6-6:
