Exactly. (Even though we're talking about common sense in the popular sense, not the rational sense.)

To them, their truth was that the world was flat (i.e. based on my little "formula")--that's putting aside political-religious factors of course. They weren't lying when they said so.

Galileo based himself not on truth, but on fact.
Well, IMO "common" means what it says in the dictionary:
Pronunciation: \ˈkä-mən\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English commun, from Anglo-French, from Latin communis — more at mean
Date: 13th century
1 a : of or relating to a community at large : public <work for the common good> b : known to the community <common nuisances>
2 a : belonging to or shared by two or more individuals or things or by all members of a group <a common friend> <buried in a common grave> b : belonging equally to two or more mathematical entities <triangles with a common base> c : having two or more branches <common carotid artery>
3 a : occurring or appearing frequently : familiar <a common sight> b : of the best known or most frequently seen kind —used especially of plants and animals <the common housefly> c : vernacular 2 <common names>
4 a : widespread, general <common knowledge> b : characterized by a lack of privilege or special status <common people> c : just satisfying accustomed criteria : elementary <common decency>
5 a : falling below ordinary standards : second-rate b : lacking refinement : coarse
6 : denoting nominal relations by a single linguistic form that in a more highly inflected language might be denoted by two or more different forms <common gender> <common case>
7 : of, relating to, or being common stock
= Merriam-Webster

Rational means something else:
Pronunciation: \ˈrash-nəl, ˈra-shə-nəl\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English racional, from Anglo-French racionel, from Latin rationalis, from ration-, ratio
Date: 14th century
1 a : having reason or understanding b : relating to, based on, or agreeable to reason : reasonable <a rational explanation> <rational behavior>
2 : involving only multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction and only a finite number of times
3 : relating to, consisting of, or being one or more rational numbers <a rational root of an equation>
- M-W

The common sense is not always good sense.

And you said, "Common sense - bull**** x belief = truth." I am saying common sense is not necessarily truth. Sometimes even good sense isn't truth because there are still such things as accidents, which are the result of not considering every variable. :D

What is the God's honest truth? Is it documented somewhere? Is it peer reviewed? Does it have a standard deviation or logarithm?
Now I am not going to try to describe what to me is truth, for that would be an impossible attempt. One cannot describe or give to another the fullness of an experience. Each one must live it for himself.
Like most people, you have read, listened and imitated; you have tried to find out what others have said concerning truth . So you have a picture in your mind, and now you want to compare that picture with what I or someone else is going to say. That is, your mind is seeking merely descriptions; you do not try to find out anew, but only try to compare.

- Swine flu/H1N1/Avian Flu/W.H.O Flu /

Manufactured B.S.. But why ?

Swine flu epidemic is largely a scam by big pharma to sell drugs to increase profits. And since the media is extremely gullible and too lazy to do proper research hype works well for both.
To make matters worse it is no longer a personal choice to get poisoned up. My daughter in laws mother works as a first aid attendant in the oil patch and she told us that crews they had last year will not be invited back unless they get vaccinated.
Remember the radio show in the fifties Invasion from Mars? Tell a lie often enough and somebody will believe it.

Can't remember who this quote is from but it is true
There are Lies, Dam Lies and Statistics.
Depending on how you word the question and use multiple choice answers you can get any kind of statistic you want.

Methinks it was the illustrious Samuel L. Clemens.

From the opening post,
Some professionals(?)like to use /misuse, words and numbers, polls and stats . To(o) often abuse and confuse true facts, through often meaningless, heated debate , rants and raves and other guided /misguided litterary attacks.Where words and numbers lie...........
What is a true fact? Is that the opposite of an untrue fact? What is an untrue fact?
Rants and raves? Lots of those here covering left/right politics, medical issues, etc.
......A thread designated to uncovering the truth ..The most truest truth ..or at least to sort through all the B.S. and the bold faced lies out there.
or to possibly see if there's any out there that subscribes to your "truth"?

Statistics Canada is a prime source of manipulated data that we are all familiar with. Possibly why they are called statistics Canada instead of facts Canada.
Their reporting of employment figures is a prime example. When your EI expires you are no longer unemployed by their reporting methods.
Another one is how they figure if the cost of living is going up or down. They remove all the volatile items from their basket of goods. So if interest rates and gas both spike by their reporting methods this does not represent an increase in the cost of living even though both are a direct hit on the wallet.

Right on again. I've had several discussions with S.J. about statistics being simply a compilation of figures but don't necessarily portray ALL the facts.

That is why it pays to read the qualifiers in tiny writing under the stats if you are serious about serious stats. :D

So what are you two trying to say? Or were you just babbling because you can't answer his questions?
Is there a fact that isn't true?
Fact is fact and truth is irrelevant to fact. Facts simply are whether anyone thinks they are true or false.
