Where is the sense?

To be quite honest I can't think of a single occasion where I've been very impressed with public protestors, outside of the old adage about "strength in numbers" and making a lot of noise, they very seldom have all the facts or worse yet choose to ignore some important facts & as far as I'm concerned as soon as they break the law they've lost all credibility.
That is assuming the law has any credibility. If it wasn't for environmental protesters we would be living (more like dying) in a toxic soup.

As for the OP, and speaking of toxic soup, we are beginning to find that, like antibiotics, herbicides and pesticides are creating super bugs and weeds. Playing god with our food supply is turning out to be something of a nightmare. But then, the world is over populated, so I guess it will all work out in the end. As a friend likes to say, "why wait for the holocaust, mutate now!"

I hear you Cliff. The main problem as I see it is that society is pulling in all sorts of different directions and even the same members pull in different directions depending on what suits them at the time. We are all managed by four or five levels of government and our lives are over structured. We live in houses that are mainly dictated by the trend setters along with all the other chattels we have because we are programmed to think we need them so of coure we have to work two or three jobs to afford all this and support half a dozen parasites and then all of a sudden because someone doesn't think a tree should be cut or a creek should be damned, you are supposed to drop everything, screw the mortgage payment, screw the car payment, screw the kids education fund. Life was a lot simpler years ago. People were also a lot saner (back around '59 :lol::lol:)

As soon as you mention using herbicides or insecticides on your garden, you hear people muttering something about "chemicals" and you are regarded as the worst pariah on earth. Yet these same people squander $millions every day ingesting tons of chemicals purchased at fast food outlets and pharmacies. How does one make sense of that?

Most people usually buy what is available and what they can afford in their area. If there was a sign somewhere stating which food products use or don't use chemicals in their development, I'm sure most people would flock to those products.

I know I would. Of course, when shopping at your local grocery store, it's not the easiest thing to do in regards to determining what's clean and what used chemicals in their development.

I'm sure one could go online and search for hours to find each company, their products and various information on which uses chemicals and which don't, but speaking for myself, I got more important things to do.

BINGO!!

Most of the times ignorant do-gooders fail to realize that there may (more tha likely will) be unintended consequenses.

They probably - Hell no, surely - think that banning DDT and save a few birds is worth more than saving hundreds of thousands of human lives, dying of malaria.

Yeah tell that to the families who had their loved ones, who served at CFB Gagetown who were continually exposed to DDT in the 50's and 60's, die from cancer related to DDT..... Last I checked, I believe cancer is a tad worse then malaria. :-?
