I find hockey still to be a very entertaining game to watch. I love plopping down and watching NHL games in HD, much better experience then watching in standard definition. I hope the Leafs make the bloody playoffs this years. :)

``Now there are too many teams watering down the talent pool...``

But the talent pool is actually larger! There are now more Yanks, more Russians, and more Europeans. This, if anything, should make hockey a better game.

Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out that way.

The game just doesn't work for me and for most Yanks. In Winter, I'll be watching college basketball (esp the Pac 10), the Bowl games, and the NFL playoffs. That, to me, is more fun.

The talent outside of Canada hasn't been deep enough to keep the talent level from dropping as they've added 11 teams (?) over the past 20 years. The league was 21 teams in the 80's.... not it's 32? 30? I don't even know.

11 new teams = 275 players that are playing now that wouldn't have even made the NHL a few years ago.

NFL is OK.... It's something to watch when the CFL season is done. Go SEAHAWKS!!

Americans have only been hockey fans in pockets around the USA.... Detroit, Minnesota, Boston, Chicago.... It never permeated the national culture like it has in Canada over the last 100+ years. Which is fine.... hockey doesn't need Americans to like it for it to be a great game.... just as soccer doesn't need North Americans to like it to be the biggest sport on Earth!

I checked and counted at least 30 teams in the NHL. The League is generally popular only in the suburbs among white middle and upper classes. It is not popular within inner cities or among minorities. Basketball is the big winter sport in the inner cities and rural districts throughout the USA.

That hit was just sick. I'm sure they can wait out for some payback, which is inevitable.

He got a 20 game suspension. So it looks like that payback will have to wait for a while. Besides, didn't the Ottawa tough guy say that if punishment was meted out by the League, then Downie wouldn't get it?

We'll have to agree to disagree on Sopel. I thought he was a good, solid defenceman who didn't make a lot of mistakes. We had better hope Luongo is on his game because we don't exactly have a lot of scoring power. I had hoped they might pick up one or two of the free agents that were available.

I just read on tsn.ca that Sopel signed with the Chicago Blackhawks. At least you won't have to worry about him going against Vancouver in the playoffs.;-)

I am the exact opposite. I cannot stand basketball(I will watch the odd playoff game, however), and I especially do not like how all of my favourite television shows are constantly pre-empted by College Basketball.

Half the fun of Original Six was you knew the names of every player in the league. How elite is "anybody who can afford the price of a team"?

Wolf

Especially in areas that can never get ice naturally. Personally, I do not think there should be teams in Anaheim or Tampa Bay. I am not sure if I am correct in this matter, but I don't think Anaheim had one sellout last season, and they were in first place since the first game of the season.

Sopel probably would have stayed if we didn't have so many up and coming defencemen, but I notice now, that we have brought in a veteran defencemen, as we have some injuries. Sopel was having a
try out with Detroit, now I notice that he has gone to Chicago, as they offered him a contract for this
year. I think he is a good player, but I also think he has lost some foot speed, but I'm glad he's playing, as he has a bunch of kids to feed so I'm sure the 1 and a half mill. he will get this year will
help them scrape by.

The free agents that were available came at too high a price, and I don't blame Nonis for passing on
them, and we have some nice players at camp who just might step up and become the scorers we
need, and hopefully Naslund will score more goals this year than last. We don't really need some
big name guy, but we do need a group of players who can score a decent number of goals and work
well as a team the way Vigneault wants, as we have good defence and a great goalie, Our scoring
in the second half last year was abov e the half way mark in the league, so if we raise that a little
more, our team will do just fine.

Yeah, that should put some beans on the table.....and a bit more. I wonder what Vancouver offered?

I thought Vancouver needed a couple good defencemen and a quality player to play with the Sedine twins. That would give us two good lines. They will have to have some good luck with there rookies if the hope to get past the first round of the play-offs.

Time will tell.
