I am happy to say I already have a girl. :D

Accidentally getting a handful of your sisters titty when she tried to get her diary back from you doesn't constitute a girlfriend Jersay. :p

I know it's hard to believe I have a serious question. I have been thinking about heaven quite a bit more than usual these past few weeks and I would like to know what the rest of you desire in the way of a hereafter.

I have a suspicion that I'm already in heaven and hell

Darkbeaver ... cool topic! Ya, I am a little surprised to see your post. And delighted.

I must admit I had to laugh at the line, "evenings in my heaven are to die for" ... was that intentional?

I love it when a question is posed that I don't have any ready answer for. I do spend a fair amount of time pondering weighty philosophical issues (despite my ditzy outward persona) but this isn't one I've given a whole lot of thought to.

I grew up catholic, so of course heaven was angels and clouds and all happy happy joy joy stuff. Never clearly defined, mind you, unlike hell where I was provided a very detailed description. When I stepped away from that religious order, I never really thought about heaven again.

I believe that there is an "ultimate" state for our souls. I simply cannot buy that when we die, that's it. Einstein said that energy can never be destroyed, only changed ... so where does that electrical energy each of us possesses go?

I believe that energy that makes us who we are simply vacates the shell of our physical form when we die. I've always intuited the truth of that, but I did have an experience that confirmed it for me. Long story short my brother died and I sat with the body while the 911 folks arrived. His shell was empty, but there was something in that room with me. Can't prove it, but I know it's true.

From there I believe we move on to being reincarnated. I believe we have the opportunity to return time and time again to realize our full potential. Once that is done, I believe we become guides and teachers. But I've never really thought about "heaven". Perhaps the closer we get to being our paramount selves, the more bliss we get. I would have to say that's how I see heaven.

I loved your description ... all the stuff you talked about was joyful, comforting and blissful. Since this world is all we know for sure, describing it in terms of our current existance is about as close as we can get to expressing it. Underneath, though, it's about the feelings. I think we take that part of us with us and heaven is a fullness of feelings.

I like your comment, "I have a suspicion that I'm already in heaven and hell." I think that's true. Maybe we all get a little bit of heaven in every life to help guide us to the consummate experience. Hell is when we haven't quite mastered that, perhaps?

Good topic DB! This stuff is ever so much more fascinating than politics!!!!! Thanks.

I can't immagine heaven. What is it? I think it has to have more than just a bunch of coconut trees. Immagine the "perfect" heaven where you have nothing to do and all happens at your bidding. You'd be so bored you'd wish you could die a second time!

Somehow I think there is an inborn need for us to serve. Children serve their parents (when the parents are old for instance), parents serve their children (change diapers, provide emotional support, feed, etc.), we feel a natural need to work (even if we don't need the money), and give instinctively to charities. We look for ways to serve as part of our nature.

So from that stand point a perfect heaven would need to be able to fulfill this requirement ther too. but if it's so perfect, then it doesn't need our help, which thus makes it less than perfect! So for it to be perfect, it would need to require our service... if you get what I mean. Even though that could be interpreted as not being perfect. So does this mean that for heaven to be perfect, it must be imperfect? So how do we define "perfect".

Oh well, I'll stop thinking about it and just see when I get there.

I would hate to get to heaven and find politics on the menu. You have mentioned the problem with the boom your dust theroy. The human mind for the most part refuses to believe in the end of personal continuity, luckily we don't have to accept that, we are free to build our heaven based on our life experiance, perhaps this is the purpose of life. I suspect that the mind if tuned during life can circumvent the void upon death. I'm obviously not alone in that suspicion, there are manifold tomes by manifold ism's which preach a step by step accent to the hereafter.
Our lives are entirely devoted to building personal heavens.
Realizing that affords the individual oportunity to assemble an ideal setting into which the soul, spirit or charge can be deposited AD. The Caracal Kid and others maintain that when you're dead you're dead, if that's the way it is and it 's maybe just as likely as not then what have I got to lose by preparing for the hereafter, nothing I'll be dead. It's a big universe, lots of room for the dead, lots of room for an infinity of heavens whatever your fondest idea of that might be.
We should all give heaven some thought while we are alive there may be no time when you're dead.

Actually, my framework is a little more complex than that, which is why I put "you" in quotation marks. I just did not want to get into a very long discussion on this at this time. Two theories that overlap with my framework enough that I can incorperate them into it (meaning they are possible within it) are Sheldrake's morphogenetic fields and holographic universe theory.

jim,
it is only a self generated "horror" because of our inablility to comprehend our own non-existance.

It is because of the limitations of human awareness,
that we create explanations that avoid our shortcomings.

There is nothing to fear in death,
<you know how the rest of it goes>

Pain might be the only way a self-conscious being
can let go.

We will do all we can to avoid that pain.

Either by drugs.

Or by mind control, hypnosis, etc.

Or by accepting death to avoid such pain.

I'm reminded of a story of Kirk Douglas, a major
Hollywood actor, who after a stroke went through
so many depressing obstacles he pulled out the gun
used in the movie OK CORRAL and put it to his mouth
but accidentally bumped a tooth so hard that the
pain distracted him from his original mission.

My heaven, is going to be rather simple, it will consist of many people, all equal, many colours, everyone will love eachother, there will be no anger, there will be no pain, no one will go insane, in my heaven there will be peace, in my heaven hate will not exsist. children will be safe to rome free.

In my heaven the colours of mother nature will be untouched, water will run freely, birds will sing, without the drowning sounds of cars pondering by, In my heaven money wont be needed, everything will be free, noone will have disabilities, deformalities, noone will have scars.

When people come into my heaven they will be washed and clensed from the pain they have enjured throughout life, evapo urated, reunited with there loved ones they will be free, free at last, to live the life they were always ment to have in the beggining!

That is what my heaven would be. :D

Could you expand a bit on Sheldrake's morphogenetic fields and holographic universe theroy or will you make me search for the book.
The question was "what's your heaven going to be like" could you go to heaven where and what would it be. Please help me I don't have an imagination nor the education and I have to get some answers without tedious reading and contemplation.

It's a peculiar horrible idea that a self-conscious
being must "feel" its own physical death.

And if that is the only door to something else, it is
still quite horrible, isn't it ?

Open your door just a bit Jim, I would see what you would build as a personal heaven. Come on man use your command of the fricking language and cough up heaven for me. Christ this was not supposed to be a difficult question, I had assumed that everyone would have a place they'd like to get to. :)
