I know it's hard to believe I have a serious question. I have been thinking about heaven quite a bit more than usual these past few weeks and I would like to know what the rest of you desire in the way of a hereafter.
I have a suspicion that I'm already in heaven and hell
Darkbeaver ... cool topic! Ya, I am a little surprised to see your post. And delighted.
I must admit I had to laugh at the line, "evenings in my heaven are to die for" ... was that intentional?
I love it when a question is posed that I don't have any ready answer for. I do spend a fair amount of time pondering weighty philosophical issues (despite my ditzy outward persona) but this isn't one I've given a whole lot of thought to.
I grew up catholic, so of course heaven was angels and clouds and all happy happy joy joy stuff. Never clearly defined, mind you, unlike hell where I was provided a very detailed description. When I stepped away from that religious order, I never really thought about heaven again.
I believe that there is an "ultimate" state for our souls. I simply cannot buy that when we die, that's it. Einstein said that energy can never be destroyed, only changed ... so where does that electrical energy each of us possesses go?
I believe that energy that makes us who we are simply vacates the shell of our physical form when we die. I've always intuited the truth of that, but I did have an experience that confirmed it for me. Long story short my brother died and I sat with the body while the 911 folks arrived. His shell was empty, but there was something in that room with me. Can't prove it, but I know it's true.
From there I believe we move on to being reincarnated. I believe we have the opportunity to return time and time again to realize our full potential. Once that is done, I believe we become guides and teachers. But I've never really thought about "heaven". Perhaps the closer we get to being our paramount selves, the more bliss we get. I would have to say that's how I see heaven.
I loved your description ... all the stuff you talked about was joyful, comforting and blissful. Since this world is all we know for sure, describing it in terms of our current existance is about as close as we can get to expressing it. Underneath, though, it's about the feelings. I think we take that part of us with us and heaven is a fullness of feelings.
I like your comment, "I have a suspicion that I'm already in heaven and hell." I think that's true. Maybe we all get a little bit of heaven in every life to help guide us to the consummate experience. Hell is when we haven't quite mastered that, perhaps?
Good topic DB! This stuff is ever so much more fascinating than politics!!!!! Thanks.
