As long as it isn't a hanging offense I doubt a homeless parson is going to see 3 meals a day and a roof over his head as a 'punishment'. Probably made a deal with the Priest and once the trial is up he will have to do community service at the Church and during that time a meal or two will be served. Win-win

The 'go to jail' if the Priest didn't charge him full price for the cookies is the test that would have had society fail. Technically you can't withhold from a child so that is who the 'middle-man' should be. Somehow that 'teach them to fish, etc.' should apply here if flour and water was used instead

It makes some christians extraordinarily anxious when others don't have the same god or even a god for that matter.
