I believe Revelation is applicable to the time and circumstance that it was written.

The microscopic view of the revelation does indeed reference first century Rome and its impact on the people living at that time, LL. The telescopic perspective of the apocalypse involves us and those who come after us. The reveal continues.

Gopher I'm sure you remember the Sinclaire Lewis novel Elmer Gantry. The movie that followed with Burt Lancaster in the lead role was a good view of these early tent revivalists which evolved into the Oral Roberts and Paul Crouch's of our times.

Enjoyed both immensely. In fact, I used to know this right wing guy who was one of those self proclaimed born again Christians but, in fact, was a Pharisee. I stole several lines from the book and used them to parody right wing talibangelists like Oral Roberts. At first my friend did not like what I said but eventually saw the humor in it.

People have been trying to apply the Revelation to their times for over two hundred years Motar. From Darby, to William Miller. Charles Taze Russell, Herbert and Garner Ted Armstrong , Hal Lindsay and a myriad of others. All taking a first century writing completely out of context. Each making predictions that never came true.

The Armstrongs made multiple millions in their campaign of lies and deceit. Then they split over who was to control all that money. Both went to their graves but not before conning people out of their life earnings.

John the disciple could not have written this but I'm sure the tacos at that time were pretty nasty
Posts on the thread show they are still in style in the same form you imagine. If some readers can't figure it out that points to a flaw in their relationship with God rather than the text in any part of the Bible is so mystical it defies understanding.

For Rome to be the one written about in Revelations then she could not have fulfilled these verses from the brass empire.

Da:8:9:
And out of one of them came forth a little horn,
which waxed exceeding great,
toward the south,
and toward the east,
and toward the pleasant land.
Da:8:10:
And it waxed great,
even to the host of heaven;
and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground,
and stamped upon them.
Da:8:11:
Yea,
he magnified himself even to the prince of the host,
and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away,
and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
Da:8:12:
And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression,
and it cast down the truth to the ground;
and it practised,
and prospered.

If the brass was the power in Luke:21:24 then we are still in the brass and the iron/clay kingdom doesn't start until the 5th trump sounds and there is 3 1/2 years left until the return. This verse is for the 5th trump.

Da:8:23:
And in the latter time of their kingdom,
when the transgressors are come to the full,
a king of fierce countenance,
and understanding dark sentences,
shall stand up.

Da:11:2:
And now will I shew thee the truth.
Behold,
there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia;
and the fourth shall be far richer than they all:
and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.
Da:11:3:
And a mighty king shall stand up,
that shall rule with great dominion,
and do according to his will.
Da:11:4:
And when he shall stand up,
his kingdom shall be broken,
and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven;
and not to his posterity,
nor according to his dominion which he ruled:
for his kingdom shall be plucked up,
even for others beside those.

Salvation by grace and sanctification by truth among those who believe, LL.

Only when you know is salvation ensured, belief is for acolytes.

What does that have to do with the book of Revelation and what we were discussing Motar?

You asked how the revelation continues, LL. It continues by grace through faith and by truth.

Gee, I dunno especially since you say,

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it - even if I said it - unless your own reason and your own common sense agree."
