What penalities can you face for illegal downloading?

I don't download movies at all, but I have to think that what the guy is saying is not entirely true. He says that movies that could have been made before aren't getting made now because of people downloading. No, I think that they aren't getting made is that they would rather focus on the "blockbuster" rather than the movie that may garner a profit. Why else do you think so many sequels and remakes get made?

As for the reason some movies that don't fall into the blockbuster genre fare poorly at the Box Office? They are crappy movies! So many plot devices get recycled so often that you could see a few movies and all that is different is the name of the movie.

I don't give a flying fuk about the ruling. I haven't done anything illegal under the constitution and I am not subject to commercial law as an individual citizen. What these companies are doing is simply scare tactics. They are not gonna send their $1500/hr lawyers to collect $500 from someone and I would challenge it all the way to the SCoC just to run up their bill into the millions so they can collect $500 which I would never pay anyway. It's time these corporate f*cktards and their pet f*cktards in govt realize this is a dead issue and stop wasting everyone's time and money. Pirate Bay is the prime example, it has moved it's servers multiple times to countries where they can't be prosecuted while the entertainment industry has spent billions trying to stop them. How stupid can these people be to keep tossing their money away.

On another note this type of thing is just pushing more and more people to the point of dissent against the govt and will eventually lead to the full-scale rebellion we need to improve our lives and our world and get free from the oppression of corporations and bankers and their mindless peons in govt.

I agree with Nick what a crock of crap.

They aren't making movies because unless they are guaranteed high profit they don't bother and creativity in Hollywood is like an oxymoron. That isn't because of downloading, it's because for every high quality movie made with a good plot and decent actors they throw 100 crap movies at us like Avalanche Sharks. After 30 seconds it's a waste of life. And the same goes for most of the crap on TV. It's formatted crap where the show changes slightly week to week. All the actors dialogues are carefully divided so that no one gets an edge and becomes a star.

movies for morons

Beyond ridiculous.

go ahead sue ya fools, make more lawyers rich

Copyright Act of Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Penalties[edit]

According to section 34(4) of the copyright act, specific penalties will be decided by the court. Section 35(1) states that an infringer is liable for the financial gain made through infringement, and "such damages to the owner of the copyright as the owner has suffered due to the infringement"[29] A copyright holder can instead elect to protect his/her copyright under section 38.1, which allows for "a sum of not less than $100 or more than $5,000 as the court considers just." for all non-commercial infringement, and $500 up to $20,000 for each commercial infringement.[30]

There are three categories of remedies to copyright infringement. They are Border, Civil, and Criminal. Border enables Customs to detain infringing materials at the border. Civil allows the copyright holder to take direct action against a person or company who violates his or her rights. Criminal is used when it is too costly to sue or to stop or try to dissuade people from committing the act again.

I don't illegally download anything so I don't worry about it. I hope the prosecute
a few to get the message across. People have intellectual property and they
make their living with their talents, when someone steals the work they are taking
money from others the same as shoplifting in my view. Whether that be stealing
from a fledgling independent or a large company someone pays in the long run
There are many who wouldn't go into the Bay and take something but they rip it off
on line same thing

I just surf the internet and watch stuff I find there. Nothing illegal in that as I pay my bill for access to the internet. I'm not responsible for what other people post if I happen to visit that page.

These days I would be afraid to download anything to my computer for fear of viruses and malware.
