Victoria

Episode 1 [of 8]

Doll 123

The first episode of the lavish new eight-part ITV series about the early life of Queen Victoria, showing a young girl becoming the most powerful woman on Earth.

On the death of her uncle King William IV in 1837, 18-year-old Princess Alexandrina becomes Queen Victoria.

This video has a weird split screen thing, but it's the best I could find.

I'm looking forward to the new series of Red Dwarf.

Yes, that's right! The first episode of the eleventh series of the sci-fi sitcom, which started in 1988 and features the spacefaring adventures of Dave Lister, Arnold Rimmer, Cat and Kryten onboard old mining ship Red Dwarf, hits our screens on TV channel Dave (named after Dave Lister) on Thursday night!

With a 12th series now also 'in the can' and coming in 2017, Dwarfers have never had it so good.

In Thursday night's opening episode of the new series - " Twentica" - the Red Dwarf crew find themselves in an alternative version of America where modern technology has been prohibited – thus making Rimmer (a hologram) and Kryten (an android) illegal.

The boys infiltrate the tech-savvy underground in an attempt to bring down the authoritarian regime, with predictably amusing results.

Here's a sneak preview of the new series:

To celebrate the start of the new series of sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf tonight, here are some episode from series two...

Set aboard the eponymous six mile long mining ship owned by the Jupiter Mining Corporation, i
n the first episode set sometime in the late 22nd century, an on-board radiation leak of cadmium II kills everyone except for lowest-ranking technician Dave Lister, who is in suspended animation at the time, and his pregnant cat, Frankenstein, who is safe in the cargo hold. Following the accident, the ship's computer Holly keeps Lister in stasis until the radiation levels return to normal – a process that takes three million years. Lister therefore emerges as the last human being in the universe – but not alone on-board the ship. His former bunkmate and immediate superior Arnold Judas Rimmer is resurrected by Holly as a hologram to keep Lister sane. At the same time, a creature known only as Cat is the last member on board of Felis sapiens, a race of humanoid felines that evolved in the ship's hold from Lister's cat, Frankenstein, and her kittens during the 3 million years that Lister was in stasis...

Red Dwarf II (1988 )

Episode 1: Kryten

The first ever episode featuring Kryten.

Red Dwarf intercepts an SAS distress call from the American Space cruiser Nova 5, which has crashed on an asteroid. Much to their disappointment, the crew (who are expecting to find female crew members) find the only survivor is Kryten, a service mechanoid with an over-active guilt chip.

David Ross (who would go on to play farm manager Elgin Sparrowhawk in sitcom The Green Green Grass) plays Kryten for the only time. From Red Dwarf III onwards, the mechanoid has been played by Robert Llewellyn.

Joanna Lumley's Japan

Episode 1 (of 3)

We follow Joanna Lumley as she travels to the far reaches of Japan, from the icy Siberian seas of the north to the subtropical islands of the south.

Silky-voiced Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna starts her 2000 mile journey across Japan in northern Hokkaido – one of the four main islands - where she travels to meet one of the most important animals in Japanese culture, the red-crowned cranes.

Leaving the countryside behind her, Joanna heads to Sapporo, her first Japanese city. She arrives during the middle of the annual Snow Festival, and meets members of the local indigenous community, the Ainu. Travelling south she visits a brewery that has been making sake since 1689 and walks to see one of the oldest pagodas in Japan, dating back to the 10th century and constructed entirely out of wood with no nails.

Joanna travels into the Fukushima exclusion zone, where a huge tsunami devastated the nuclear power plant in 2011. She visits Jigokudani Onsen which is not full of people... but Japanese macaques or snow monkeys. Over 150 of them come down from the frozen mountains every morning and spend most of the day enjoying the steaming hot waters. Joanna takes a Shinkansen (bullet train) from Nagano to Tokyo, the capital of Japan and world’s largest metropolis, where it’s time to embrace the modern metropolis of Japan’s post war economic boom.
