Delta Goodram - "Eclipse"

Formed in 1956 when Europe was still recovering from war, along came the Eurovision Song Contest:

European nations would now fight against each other in a light-hearted and fun music competition rather than killing and maiming each other.

Eurovision has been held every year since apart from 2020.

But since 2015 Australia has taken part even though it is nowhere near Europe and this year they are the second favourites behind Finland.

Australia was allowed to enter the competition in 2015 due to it being extremely popular there.

Famous Australian singer Delta Goodram, 41, represents Australia...

The Finnish entry "Liekinheitin".

I can't speak a word of Finnish but using an AI translator it's about a young man who is in love with a gorgeous young woman and vice versa. Even though though they love each other they are angry with each other and she speaks to other men in the bar and he sees it and is angry. She's doing it to make him jealous. She loves him and wants to test if he truly loves her. They act like they don't like each other when in reality they are both in love with each other.

An ape and an elephant - two of the most intelligent creatures on this planet - bonding together over Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" (1801).

With the flapping of the ears, it's clear the huge elephant is a fan of music.

Even though they are two different species, they are two friends who enjoy Beethoven together.

The Wurzels - "The Combine Harvester" (1976)

In the year in which temperatures literally soared in Britain, leading to droughts over the summer, the Somerset "Scrumpy and Western" band with their rhotic West Country accents achieved their first UK No1 hit with this comical song about a farmer who is in love with a female farmer and who promises her twins, triplets and a brand new new combine harvester if she marries him.

Fifty years later The Wurzels are still performing and, being 2026, have just created a song that was written by AI.

Deep Purple - "Hush" (1968)

In their youth the London band achieved a huge hit with this. They went on to re-release the song in 1984.

Now, as old men, they have just released their new single which is taken from their upcoming new album.

Deep Purple are renowned as one of the "Big Three" foundational bands of hard rock and heavy metal, along with their fellow Brits Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin...

New Order ft England - "World in Motion" (1990)

The World Cup is back and, as is the case every four years, football-mad England is bedecked with Crosses of St George on homes and vehicles as the national side attempts to "bring it home" for the first time since 1966

In 1990, Manchester electro-rockers New Order and the England football team scored a big UK hit as the 1990 World Cup in Italy got underway. England striker John Barnes did the rap.

In what has now gone done in footballing history, England were beaten in the Semi-Final by eventual tournament winners West Germany, with England striker Paul Gascoigne famously in tears at the end.
