Blur - "St Charles Square" (2023)

You'll have to be in your late Thirties at least to be able to remember the 1995 Battle of Britpop, London Vs Manchester, Blur Vs Oasis, "Country House" Vs "Roll With It." Blur's "Country House" won that battle, reaching UK No1.

Now the kings of Britpop are back with a new album and a new song...

The new album - "The Ballad of Darren" - was release on 21st July...

When I’m feeling bummed out and stressed by other people’s venality and stupidity, as I am these days for reasons that I don’t propose to discuss here*, I go back to the music of my youth for comfort. Some I pick and sing myself, that’s the best catharsis, some I put on the stereo, some I go to YouTube for. So these days it’s CCR, Stan Rogers, Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy, Lorena McKennet, and the incredibly sweet and uplifting voices of Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris on the too few albums they made together.

*suffice it to say that a few years ago we fired an investment advisor who lied to us, robbed us, and tried to bully us. She’s now facing criminal charges for fraud.

For a modern country take on being older, sometimes rough, sometimes gentle, try James McMurtry's album The Horses and the Hounds.

An excellent recommendation, just watched a couple of his YouTube videos, the man’s pretty good. Thanks for that, I’ll be adding some of him to my music collection and learning to pick and sing some of it myself. Starting with “Forgotten Coast” I think, that one really spoke to me.
