Let's imagine the following hypothetical scenario. In 2008 a series of natural disasters across Canada, including tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. devastated the economy such that our current GDP is now half of what it was last year. Many are homeless, starving, the government is indepted, etc., and Canadian society is on the verge of collapse. People are talking about arming themselves for what they believe is an upcoming collapse of government and anarchy.
In a panic, we reduce parliament to a small committee of ten or so members so that govenrment can function more quickly.
You're now the Prime Minister of Canada and the committee supports you fully.
Now the only way to save the country from collapse into anarchy is to slash government spending in all areas deemed non-essential, and restructure social services, education, etc. to be as efficient and effective as possible.
As PM, what would you do?
