Re #239.

Ironsides, you are far too generous with the Left.

They wanted GWB's destruction long before November 2000. After Bush mopped up the floor with Gore in three debates, the only thing the Left could ridicule was the way Bush Pronounced "Nuclear".

Then came the elections. Gore, the incumbent Vice President was incapale of winning Tennessee, his own state. He was incapable of winning Arkansas, the state of his former President.

Yet, the Left claims that Bush "STOLE" the 2000 election. They poisoned the world with their venom, helped along with the totally in-the-bag liberal press.

History has a nasty habit to repeat itself.

The disgust with Nixon produced the totally in-over-his-head Jimmy Carter. Which, in turn produced Ronald Reagan.

The totally unjustified and left-wing hatred fuelled by the dislike of George W. Bush produced Obama, who will be just as incompetant and pathetic as Jimmy Carter ever was. The signs are already inevitable and undeniable. In fact, he is already ahead of the Nobel Piss Prize winner by bashing his own country while abroad. At least the peanut farmer had the decency to wait until he was an EX-President. Obama, just like Carter will produce a real American.

Who the new Reagan is, we don't know, yet. It is a good guess that it will not be Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh is happy and rich where he is.

Right now the Left is hard at work to denigrate and besmirch anyone who is a possible candidate to give them a good run for their money. A generation ago they also declared that Reagan was nothing but an "amiable dunce".

Let them denigrate Palin, Jindahl, Sanford, Pawlenty and anyone else to their dirty and dark heart's content. They are going to have to eat their own words.

November 2010 for lunch. November 2012 for dinner.

You have got your facts wrong, Yukon Jack. Bush may have won the debates in your mind (but then in your mind, doesn’t the conservative always win over the liberal?). However, opinion polls suggest that Gore won all three debates.

Bush did not steal the election. Republican controlled Supreme Court handed the election to Bush, their buddy, on a partisan political vote.

The totally unjustified and left-wing hatred fuelled by the dislike of George W. Bush produced Obama,

Not quite. The highly unpopular Iraq war and the biggest economic meltdown since the Great Depression was what resulted in Republicans getting their head handed to them in 2006 and 2008, and also resulted in election of Obama.

Let them denigrate Palin, Jindahl, Sanford, Pawlenty and anyone else to their dirty and dark heart's content. They are going to have to eat their own words.

So, are you predicting here that Republicans will gain control of the senate and the House in 2010 and will win the presidency in 2012? I will hold you to those predictions.

One is no better than the other. A happy medium in pretty well everything seems to work best.

Sorry, JLM, but on this one I am right. Go back and check the records, Gore won all three debates.

George Orwell had it wrong about who was going to control us.

The fault lies in us.

We are willing pawns in the opposing Talking Head Cable News Echo Chambers.

We are mere extensions of the Headlines.

We are far from thoughtful.

We are just echoes.

Let us bifurcate !!!

We must continue to believe we actually have independent thoughts.

Let us continue with this mirage.

We are Borg !!!!

I wasn't referring to the debates, I was referring to your continual remarks about Y.J. being right wing and all I was trying to point out that you are just as left wing as he is right wing, so you shouldn't be criticising him as he is no more WRONG wing than you are. I've got no opinion about the debates because I'm not interested in them and never followed them.

I am left wing, really? Show me even one issue where I am left wing. I consider myself to be left of center, my positions on most issues represent the mainstream in Ontario and Quebec. For that matter, I think I am closer to the mainstream than you are.

On most of the issues (economy, health care, abortion, gay marriage, death penalty, minimum wage etc.), my position is the mainstream position, at least in Ontario and Quebec (and hence in Canada). Can the same be said about your positions?

1. Economy- live within your means and don't spend money you don't have unless it's an emergency.
2. Health care- ultimately it's best if an individual looks after his health as if it's his/her most important possession and must be ULTIMATELY responsible for the cost of taking care of it.
3. Abortion- in favour for the protection of the mother's life or health, otherwise I'm against SOLELY because the subject doesn't have a say.
4.Gay marriage- Whatever two gay people want.
5. Death penalty- Generally against it,with the exception of heinous acts against children or otherwise compromised people. For two drunks fighting in a bar NO.
6. Minimum wage- Let the market place establish wages, when a company starts losing it's good employees because they don't pay enough, they will get the message. Wage should be directly tied to performance, not arbitrarily set.

I'll let the readers decide if I'm left, right or mainstream. I don't really care what it's called because I take "labels" with a grain of salt.

JLM, these are all right wing positions, and out of the mainstream of Canada. Refer to any opinion poll. If these are your position, you very much belong on the right.

Mainstream Canada may very well be Left of what we in the U.S. call left, but you have a very confusing form of government. Your Right is our Left/Right, your Left is who knows what. I do however prefer our voting system much better, we make a mistake here and there, but at least who we personally vote for has a chance to win. Seems like you guys/gals will always be grumbling about the results. This Derek K. Miller seems to explain your system pretty good. As soon as I read the following I knew what the difference was between us.

"Our election results are distorted because, under the current, winner-take-all voting system, most of us vote for people who don't get elected, and those votes have no effect on the outcome of the elections."

Penmachine: How left-wing Canada elects a right-wing government - words music comment from Derek K. Miller - Vancouver, B.C., Canada (since 2000)

They could very well be, I just think they are sensible positions that no sensible person would argue against. Our of curiosity what would be the left wing positions for the economy, gay marriage and minimum wage?

JLM, I really couldn’t tell you what the left wing positions are, you may want to look up NDP platform for that. However, left of centre positions are as follows:

Economy – Sound economic management, no deficits. That is how Liberals governed for 13 years. In my opinion, government should do whatever is necessary to not run a deficit, including spending cuts and tax increases. We will leave aside the current economic meltdown. That is an exception, perhaps once a century occurrence.

Gay marriage – in favor of gay marriage. The most recent poll I saw puts the support for gay marriage at 59% (I think opposed were around 35%).

Minimum wage – in favour of minimum wage.
