The Sabre was a great airplane but the jets were different. You didn't feel as connected as you might have, to a Mustang.
In a Sabre, an attack lasted a few seconds and it was over. I never flew any real combat sorties in a Sabre but practicing was fun.

You are the expert of course but from what I gathered early jet fighting still had the basics only at a higher speed. I mean there were no long range missiles, no heat seekers, etc. You had to manuever for the shot just at higher speed.

The V-12's sound so wonderful. The piston planes had character.

Yes. Exactly right. The Canadair Sabre 6 had six Browning fifty calibre machine guns with a hundred and fifty API rounds each and a firing rate of something like 800 rounds a minute, so that hundred and fifty rounds didn't last too long.
