Hit people in the pocket, and you get their undivided attention. It makes your spin harder to sell.
On June 7, the Prime Minister met with local representatives at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Annual Conference and Trade Show in Calgary. During the conference, Trudeau spoke on stage with Halifax Mayor Mike Savage and responded to questions from the audience of mayors, councillors and municipal representatives from across Canada.

One audience member asked Trudeau about his plan to balance the budget after adding over $1 trillion to the national budget over 10 years. Trudeau responded by listing Canada’s economic accomplishments and how he supports affordability, naming the carbon tax as an example.

Trudeau was then met with a chorus of boos and jeers from attendees at the FCM conference, which represents 2,100 municipalities.

Freeland seems unaware of the absurdity of a federal government that has been in power since 2015 arguing Canada is broken, or at least will be, if it doesn’t hike the capital gains tax from 50% to 67% on capital gains of more than $250,000 in a year for individuals and on all capital gains for corporations and trusts. Link, etc…

We should already know that there’s "no tax the Liberals don't love."

We need a Constitutional amendment to the effect that "All income, from whatever source derived, shall be taxed equally, except that progressive brackets, allowing greater taxation of larger marginal amounts, may be enforced."

Oh that's a good way to stiffle investments so good idea! We can watch our unemployment rate sky rocket.
It's "stifle," and yeah, I can see rich people, companies, and investment funds all deciding they're just gonna put their money in suitcases and put 'em in the garage.

Nice to know you want a firefighter's widow to pay more tax on the paycheque from the fortnight in which he was killed on duty than some rich kid who never did a hand's turn of work in his life pays on the increase in his trust fund.

That's the spirit that built Canada!

I'm not the one advocating a lower tax rate for corporations and rich folk than what working people pay.
Corporations are owned by people known as sharholders who share in corporate profits.

Those people pay the tax on corporate profits at the personal tax rate.

Its not a conspiracy. You could up corporate taxes by 2% but that cuts into profits to go to the higher taxed shareholders. Govt would lose money.
