"This year's enhanced online ballot and mobile text platform will increase accessibility and make the experience more rewarding. And by making real-time results available to our fans on NHL.com, we're allowing a level of transparency and engagement that no sports league has ever done."
--Brian Jennings, NHL Executive Vice President, Marketing

In a first for all major professional sports leagues, the NHL will provide real-time All-Star fan balloting results online at NHL.com.

From Nov. 12 through Jan. 2, NHL fans will be able to vote as often as they like in the XM NHL® All-Star Fan Balloting presented by 2K Sports to select the starting lineups for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal. Fans around the world can vote online via interactive English and French ballots at Vote.NHL.com. Those in the U.S. and Canada also will be able to cast their votes via text message using any wireless carrier. During the voting period, real-time results will be available exclusively on Vote.NHL.com/results. This marks the third consecutive year the All-Star Balloting process is entirely digital.

XM, which airs every NHL game for every team as the Official Satellite Radio Partner of the NHL, and 2K Sports, a leading publisher of sports video games, return to the NHL All-Star Fan Balloting as title and presenting sponsors, respectively.

"All-Star fan balloting is an opportunity for our fans to participate and have a direct impact on the game they're passionate about," NHL Executive Vice President, Marketing Brian Jennings said. "This year's enhanced online ballot and mobile text platform will increase accessibility and make the experience more rewarding. And by making real-time results available to our fans on NHL.com, we're allowing a level of transparency and engagement that no sports league has ever done."

The XM NHL All-Star Fan Balloting presented by 2K Sports section will feature interactive ballots in English and French. English language ballots will include video clips and XM Radio highlights of players on the ballot. Real-time balloting results will be available on the Leaders Board Presented by XM on Vote.NHL.com/results. Boston-based PROD4ever designed and developed the online ballots.

Eligible residents of the United States and Canada who vote online will be able to enter for a chance to win a variety of prizes: complimentary NHL GameCenter Live™ half-season subscriptions, autographed 2009 NHL All-Star jerseys and shop.NHL.com gift certificates. One grand prize winner will receive a trip for two to attend the 2009 NHL All-Star Weekend in Montreal. There is no purchase necessary to enter or win. For sweepstakes rules, visit Vote.NHL.com/sweepstakes.

Fans can vote for up to 6 Eastern Conference players and 6 Western Conference players: 3 forwards, 2 defensemen and 1 goaltender. For the first time, fans will be permitted to select as few as 1 player - a balloted player or write-in - per online ballot at Vote.NHL.com or via text message.

To vote using any wireless carrier, fans should text their favorite player's last name to the shortcode 81812. Fans interested in voting for all of their favorite team's balloted players can text the team nickname (e.g., Bruins) to 81812. Standard text messaging charges will apply. Telescope, Inc., a pioneer in mobile solutions and participation TV, developed the text-to-vote program for the XM NHL All-Star Fan Balloting presented by 2K Sports.

XM NHL All-Star Fan Balloting presented by 2K Sports widgets will be available on Vote.NHL.com/widgets. Fans can download "Click to Vote" and "I Voted" widgets to post on blogs, social network pages and personal websites, directing others to cast their votes on Vote.NHL.com directly from the widget.

Dang! Martin Brodeur is having elbow surgery and will be gone 3-4 months! I am tempted to dump him from my pool, but since the most he can give me is 2 points a game(1 point for win, and 1 point if he gets a shutout) I want to save it for either a Center or Winger that gets injured. I only have two "trades" left, and I don't want to waste another one so close to the start of the season.:-(8O

I never would have figured it would be such a serious injury after hearing about it. Heck, they orginally said it was just a bruised elbow. The Devils are toast IMHO. They lost their best player, and it WILL affect them.

Yeah, that's too bad, I saw him leave the ice the other night, didn't know how he did it, didn't
look like much.
I have been travelling today, am in Victoria, so didn't get my game day data in.

The Leafs came back to tie their game tonight after being down 4-1. Hopefully they can come back and win. Is it just me, or has Toskala been average the past couple of games?

Tonight was a mixed-bag for me.

The good:
Semin got 2 goals, and Ovechkin got 3 assists.
Malkin got 3 assists, and Crosby got 1 assist.
Iginla got 1goal and 2 assists(so far)
St. Louis got 1 goal and 1 assist(he is finally scoring!)

The bad:

Toronto lost.
Ottawa won.

Toronto's goaltending hasn't played very well recently.

That calgary game was a goal fest, but calgary came out ahead 7-6, and the penguins almost gave up their big lead on
edmonton, but hung on to win 5-4, was 4-0 for awhile.

Guess the nhl is getting all the goals they want this year, there have been some high scoring
games.

I thought for sure that both Calgary and Pittsburgh were going to cough up their leads. Edmonton ended up losing 5-4. Calgary...wow! They almost blew it!

If San Jose can end up winning I will end up with 25 points tonight. That will be my best night of the pool so far.

Oh, thanks for reminding me of my hockey pool, as I have to make up my new team for next
week.

No problem.

Does your pool change each week, talloola?

yeah, it's the cbc, hockey night in canada fantasy pool, I was in
300th place a couple of weeks ago, the highest I've ever been,
as I think there is thousands and thousands of members, so I play
for the fun of it, don't ever expect to win anything, i just enjoy it.

A new team can be picked each week before the first saturday game is played,
and if you don't select a new team, they just carry your existing team over to the
next week.

Memories meant to savor
Saturday, 11.08.2008 / 3:30 PM / Ice Age
By Phil Coffey - NHL.com Sr. Editorial Director

Truth be told, Hall of Fame Weekend is one of my favorite parts of a season that has a lot of favorite parts. As an addicted history buff in all things, not just hockey, I'll never turn away from the chance to read any hockey history that comes my way. That's a strong thread here at NHL.com. This week alone, we dug into some pretty important historical stories that actually weren't related to the Hall of Fame. Most fans know Red Berenson as the hockey coach at Michigan, but you may not realize he was a pretty fair NHL player in his own right. John Kreiser looked at one of the NHL's unforgettable nights when Berenson scored 6 goals against the Flyers at the Spectrum. No easy road there.
Shawn Roarke had the rare pleasure of chatting away with the great Bobby Orr for a story on the 30th anniversary of his retirement. Lordy I feel old!

The Leafs kicked Montreal's butt tonight! They won 6-3! Offense was clicking tonight for sure. Hagman and Grabovski are playing really well.

Washington beat a tough team in the Rangers, winning 3-1. Semin got another goal and an assist for me. He has 12 goals and 11 assists in 14 games. Wow!8O:cool:

Iginla potted another goal, but Calgary lost 3-1 to Columbus.

And, in the late games phoenix beat florida, 4-1
San Jose beat Dallas 2-1
L.A. beat St. Louis 4-1
Colorado beat Nashville 1-0
Hate to see Toronto beat Montreal, but have to admit that Toronto have an energetic exciting
team this year, they are fun to watch, and Montreal have been off for 5 days, so definitely
rusty and slow, they won't be like that next time.
Sydney Crosby is definitely playing 'hurt', I'm sure he should be sitting out, he is struggling and
hurting.
Iginla is flying, 9 goals now, and even though his team lost he came through again, my favourite player in the NHL.

Hey now, Talloola. Don't be hatin' the Leafs.;-):p

I think Pittsburgh has a rest day or two coming up. Hopefully that will give Crosby the time to heal a little bit. There is no way he will sit out unless the pain is too much for him to bear. I am not saying that is the smart thing to do, but he has lots of drive to play.

Iginla, having started a little slow at the beginning of the season, is flying on all cylinders right now. He is a scoring machine!
