Iginla leads W estern goal parade
Jarome Iginla led the offensive charge in the Western Conference. His 50 goals and 98 points were highs in the West and third overall in the League.
Jarome Iginla highlights
Last season, everyone chased Alex Ovechkin.

Goals, shots, points -- if you played in the NHL in 2007-08, he was the gold standard. And he was the winner of more hardware than most other teams -- save, perhaps, the Detroit Red Wings -- earned as a group.

talloola your like the only person posting in this thread... stop bumping it and just let it die already.

That's not my job, I'm not looking for chat so much, as I am supplying information at
the moment, and when the season starts I'm sure there will lots to chit chat about.
My post today is to let everyone, who is interested, know about the winter classic,
that doesn't really call for a reply, unless one wants to give one.
I'm sure a few people checked the post out, found out about the winter classic, then
signed out, that's OK.

Talloola is the moderator of this thread. She provides information to the ignorant. She knows a lot about the game and we are lucky to have her.

Team Canada names Quinn

Dan Rosen | NHL.com Staff Writer

National Junior Tem coach on Thursday. Hockey Canada went against the grain this time, but by dipping into a different well of qualified coaches the staff fished out a grizzled veteran who without a doubt knows how to get the most out of 22 prized teenagers.

I don't think there is a more knowledgable hockey man out there than Pat Quinn.. The Vancouver management never appreciated the talent of this man. Quinn, among others, has run into that old reality that it is easier to fire the coach than 18 players.

I really liked him best as a coach, as opposed to the general manager, and yes, I agree,
he should have been the canuck coach much longer than he was, but, as you say,
same ole same ole, the coach is always the first to go.
He seems to be enjoying working with these young players, and he's got that spark back
in his eyes again, as he loves it so much, can't stand being on the sidelines.
He should do well with this team it will be a strong one.

Sensfan and Hyack.

My apologies. I was trying to reply to both of your posts at once and accidentally deleted them.

Sensfan - Talloola is the NHL Hockey forum leader so she is helping keep everyone up to date on NHL stuff.

Hyack - Welcome to CC. I'm originally from the Royal City. For me the jury is still out on Gillis. Will give his team a few months to see what they're made of. Sorry your post is gone. Hope you repost it.

As requested by Kreskin, here is my original post:

This being my first post on CanadianContent, even prior to my Introduction....I want to make it known that even though it is still 3 weeks before the pre-season games start, I have already taken a great dislike to the Canuck's new general manager Mike Gillis!

You want to tell us why? Or do we guess?

First and foremost is his willingness to waste $10,000,000 a year on as hasbeen like Sundin.

I don't think Gillis ever entertained the idea that Sundin would ever actually play for Vancouver. The offer was all for show. This year's Canucks are probably better than last year's Canucks.

I agree that this years canucks will start off as a better group than they finished with last
season. And I like the idea of having that 11 million to play with, cause I'm sure Sundin
will either play again in Toronto, or retire, he seems like a rel doze to me right now, it;s
a wonder he knows what shoes to put on 'what' feet.
I like what gillis has done, and I'm looking forward to the canucks starting with their new
group, and as the first couple of months go by, gillis can figure out where more changes
need to be made, and he has the money to wheel and deal, and make a couple of trades,
there is no hurry to have to complete this team by the first league game, even if they
go till about the end of november, then shore up the weak spots, that's fine with me.
No one can judge gillis right now, he has to be given a chance to get this team on the
ice, and some time for the coaches to get them in the right lines, and some chemistry to
form, then, we'll see.

I coached hockey for quite a few years and there is one thing that is obvious after a while is that the longer a line plays together, the better they get. The Russians looked like a team of super stars for a while but what they really were, is well matched lines that had played together for five or six years. In the 72 series, after both teams had played together for a while, the Russian edge went away quickly.
If the Canucks can get the lines put together and leave them together, they will improve. I think they have the players to make a pretty good team. If the coaches can get the best out of them they have a chance to go past the first round of the play-offs but they need a few key players to match Detroit or any of the strongest teams.

Vineault juggled Naslund all over the place last year, and he couldn't get any chemistry
with anyone, I think it was his own fault, as he seemed a step behind much of the time.

There was a 'recent' interview with him, where he said " I have worked harder this off season than I have ever done before", I think I will have a better season.

So, I say to him "Why didn't you do that when you were a canuck, and maybe you would
have had a better few seasons, got a little too comfortable in your role, and thought
you didn't need to get better, well, you were wrong."

It will be interesting to see how Naslund and Morrison do this year. I got the feeling they both thought they were superstars being held back by a bad team. If this was true, they both should score 50 or 60 goals this year and be on the all star team. I think they both benefited from Bertuzzi's presence and neither was as good after Bertuzzi left. Any bets that Naslund and Morrison turn out to be rather average players on their new teams?

Because Naslund has a new outlook, and has worked much harder in the offseason, I think
he will have a better season, and also the stress he had being captain, (a poor one), will
be gone, and he can blend in. If he does much better this year, in my opinion, won't
reflect on the canucks, but on his own physical , and mental preparation this year, he was
not in great shape with the canucks over the last 3 years, slower than many others, and
seemed stressed out much of the time.
I think Morrison will have an uphill climb for a little while, as he is still rehabilitating
his injury, so he will have to get in top shape and his injury will have to become 100%
healed, but then he will play his usual hard working, fast skating style, he is a better
than average player, and also, as with naslund, because they are on new teams they
will play better for awhile, it's just natural, renewed mental energy, and a desire to
please their new teams.
They are gone now, and in my mind, I don't even think about them anymore, I am
excited about the canucks now, and they are not canucks any more, so, good luck to
them, and so long.
