I would imagine they are getting there, I know they have other plans, if and when he
decides to either come or not, and I would imagine they also have their own deadline
but there hasn't been any real need to have to do anything else in that time period anyway, but as they get closer to the training camp, or perhaps one of their other plans
begins to get shaky, Gillis will probably make a move.

Gomez would be a great addition, he is from Alaska, and played his junior hockey in
B.C., and has ties to the west coast, not to mention that he is a great player.

He would be a good addition.

I'm really tired of the Sundin thing, I know it's really not his fault, as the media are
the ones who built it up to such a frenzy, but he obviously hasn't been very excited
about anyone's team, only in his personal time, so, I am only interested in the
canucks personal time, and whatever he does now, I really don't care, and if he comes
to vancouver, I won't really care, only that, for the money he will be making he better
play well, and he has waited so long, apparantly isn't skating yet, just working out, so
at 38, one would think he should be skating a while ago.

I'm a believer that anyone who goes to the top in their field does it with passion. I don't sense he has much of that left. I'd rather see good money go to someone who has a desire to win that is obvious.

Yeah, i agree. He is engaged to be married, and the rumour that he wants to go to the
Rangers makes sense to me, wouldn't that be a nice way to spend the first two years as
newlyweds, by living in New York City, then back to Sweden for the rest of their lives.
So, the decision will be one of hockey/money/lifestyle/easy travel.

Remember the '82 Canucks? They had a hot goalie and they had a leader that tried harder than anyone. I can't think of anyone that ever fought harder in the corners than Stan Smyl. He brought energy and leadership. Talentwise he was middle of the road, but I'd take a guy like him any day than a half-hearted talent.

p.s. - it's no coincidence that Smyl is the only guy in junior history to play in four straight memorial cups.

Yeah, that's right, hopefully we'll see some of that 'heart' come alive in a few of our
new young guys, it's a new era starting for the canucks, new stars and leaders will be
born, I'm looking forward to the next couple of years, and Gillis isn't finished yet, so
whatever else he does will improve the club too.
I think Mitchell has been asked to be 'acting' captain for awhile, not permanent.

Maple Leafs Announce Rookie Tournament Roster
Toronto Maple Leafs
Aug 26, 2008, 12:07 PM EDT

Schenn

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday their 23 player roster that will participate in a three-day Rookie Tournament hosted by the Leafs at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. The players will compete in three games beginning Saturday, September 13 versus prospect teams from the Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Attending the rookie tournament include defenceman Luke Schenn, who was Toronto’s first choice, selected fifth overall at the NHL Entry Draft this past June. Other Maple Leafs’ 2008 draft choices playing in the tournament include Mikhail Stefanovich (third choice, 98th overall) and Joel Champagne (fifth choice, 129th overall).

Six players who played professionally for the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies last season will compete in the tournament including Darryl Boyce, Stefano Giliati, Dale Mitchell, Kyle Rogers, Max Taylor and Phil Oreskovic.

Toronto’s coaches for the rookie tournament include Maple Leafs’ director of player development Dallas Eakins, and Marlies’ assistant coaches Doug Gilmour and Joe Paterson.

The retirement of center Trevor Linden truly ushered in a new era for the Vancouver Canucks.

It was no surprise that when center Cody Hodgson was still on the board at No. 10 at the 2008 Entry Draft, the Canucks quickly plucked the 18-year-old - who is already drawing comparisons to Vancouver's former captain. Hodgson had 40 goals and 45 assists for the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League in 2007-08.

"Character, integrity ... he's been a winner all the way up," Vancouver General Manager Mike Gillis said of Hodgson. "He has a lot of great features, we're really pleased."

You will like it.....read Mike Boone, he is a hilarious and hates "The Don" and Gary. If you go to this site during a game he does a play by play that is very amusing, they also have a podcast that is interesting.;-)
