I hope most of you hockey fans watched detroit play st. louis tonight, as it was a preview of a top notch, very intense playoff game.

no score till 3 rd period, then st. louis scored 2, then detroit scored 2, went thru overtime, then right thru the first 5 shoot out players, and bertuzzi scored to win it for detroit, first time I have cheered for him for years, so st. louis got 1 point, they are 2 behind canucks now.

great game.

Glad to see the thug is good for sumtin'

these hockey playoffs are the frenziest i've seen since the old days of the broadstreet bullies.

many fights in many games, big fights, groups of players all fighting.

anyway:

St. Louis over San jose, so that series is 1 each

Ottawa over new york, so that series is all even

washington over boston, all even

now i'm watching chicago and phoenix, phoenix up one game to nothing, and ahead after one period.
'UPDATE' -- phoenix was ahead thruoughout the game, chicago tied the game with
5 seconds remaining in regulation time, then won it in overtime.

yesterday:

detroit over nashville, tied at one each

new jersey over florida, one to nothing for jersey

philly and pittsburg, philly up 2 games to nothing

and of course, l.a. over vancouver- 2 games to none

the eveness of the teams is amazing, causing every team to play at such a frenzie, as they know
they can win, they all know they can win.

doesn't matter what the stats said at the end of regulation season, they are all so close, I
couldn't guess in a hundred years what two teams will play in the finals, let alone who the
winner will be.

looks like canucks at this point, along with pittsburg, are trailing by the most, but we'll have
to see how the next games go.

I didn't see the end of the Senators/Rangers but am very happy hear the Sens won. I thought they played with a lot of fight and deserved something better than a loss. Well done Sens!

I would love nothing more than to see the sens defeat the rangers in this series, maybe after this
win, they will have more belief, and do it again.

One thing I've noticed is the number of fights in this year's playoffs compared to previous years: its waaay up from where it was. I remember some post seasons with no fighting at all, but there has been a ton this year and we haven't completed ANY 1st rd series. I wonder if its because the refs aren't enforcing a lot of the obstruction/interference calls like they used to, so teams are taking more liberties and tempers are fraying as a result.

ps I don't care for the Sens but I hate the Rangers so go Sens. I'm ambivalent with NJ-FLA. Go Bruins: send Ovelchicken golfing. Come on Pens: we want a come back! Go Wings (one last run for Lidstrom)! Sorry Canucklehead fans but I am cheering for the upstart Kings! I'd like to see Cinderella at the ball so go Blues! And finally I'll cheer for Mom's Blackhawks against the real Jets organization.

I wonder if, after watching the bruins in last seasons finals, how they got away with lots of crazy stuff,
and no official seemed to care, that they all decided to come out intimidating their opponants. Canucks
seemed to be doing that in the first game, and it was a total waste of time, they gave the game away,
because of stupid behavior.

very normal game between san jose and st. louis tonight. st. louis won 4-3, but san jose scored two
quick goals close to the end of the game, so there was a bit of excitement for the last seconds, but
st. louis hung on to win.

i'm wishing for st. louis in this series.

boston defeated washington, don't really care about this one- 4-3

rangers defeated senators, yuk 1-0

no overtimes

Just watched phoenix defeat chicago 3-2 in overtime, this series is now 2 to 1 for phoenix

Nashville over detroit - 3-1 - nashville now leads series 3 games to 1

Florida over New Jersey - 3-2 - and now leads the series 2 games to 1

lets go phoenix.(i'm afraid torres has done it again, probably will be out
for the duration, as he charged hossa, left his feet, hit him high, and hossa
was carted out on a stretcher, NO PENALTY, oh boy, the officiating is the joke
of the Nhl.)

don't know how detroit is going to figure out renne, he is a horse in the net.

jersey was winning this game 3-0 in the first period, both goalies fizzled out,
had to be pulled.

That's too bad about Chicago, I think I'll be over their loss by the end of the week.

yes, i'm on my third hanky, can't seem to dry the tears, oh I forgot they are tears of happiness. lol

Yes, I'm very sorry to hear that Hossa left on a stretcher.

He went down hard, think he hit his head, a similar hit to the one on henrik last game, but torres
left his feet, hit him very hard, and high, what an ass he is, doesn't learn, then he sits on
the bench looking like he doesn't know what all the fuss is about.

I was wondering the rest of the game what would happen if torres either scored the winning goal, or
hit someone else and put them out too, as he shouldn't have been allowed to continue playing at all.
But as it turned out, he was quite tame for the rest of the game, probably his last.

After the game quenville was screaming into the mike about the hit, stated that it
was brutal, and 4 guys out there didn't see it, of course meaning the officials.

Bettman just the other day sent a memo to all the teams and stated there would be
heavy fines for any more remarks given in interviews about officials.
well, here is another one, and I don't think quenville is finished complaining.

Watched the Detroit game but not the Phoenix game, so I didn't see the Torres hit on Hossa till I tuned into Sportscentre this morning. What really stuns me is that in the replay you can clearly see a ref standing not three feet away from the hit!!!! And no call??? Really makes me wonder how much training some of these refs get.

Hossa is out of the hospital but no word on when he might come back. Apparently, Torres will be gone for the play-offs but haven't heard the official word yet.........just what the sports guys are saying.

Bettman, the little so and so, never changes.......go after the coaches who, right or wrong, sound off about officiating but meanwhile players are being hurt and the refs are standing by with their thumbs up their bums doing nothing about it.

YEAH PITTSBURGH!!!! THAT'S THE WAY TO PLAY THE GAME!

What a game this is, just over 9 mins left in the 3rd and the Pens are ahead 10 to 3! I think it is safe to say there will be a game 5 back in Pittsburgh. Oh me of little faith.......should never have doubted the guys. Great to see Fleury get his feet back under him, this will do his confidence a world of good.

What started out with a Pens penalty no sooner than the game was under way, became a rout for my guys. Neither Flyer goalie could keep the pucks out, mind you the numerous Flyer penalties - and the refs seemed to call everything but spitting on the ice tonight - didn't help them. At one point in the game, the Pens only had three guys on the ice cause the rest were in the box, but they got by that and came back strong. Sidney even got a goal off his butt! Jordan Stall got a hat trick. Malkin got the 1rst and the 10th goal. I think 3 guys got evicted from the game, including Matt Cooke who though he has been darn straight this year got caught doing the dirty to a Flyer, but as he went so did two of the Flyers.

Fans started leaving the stadium before the 2nd period even came to an end, so much for support for the team.

Now I can breathe a bit easier and as soon as this is finished I will see if the Canucks can pull off a similar come back.

Thank you Penguins, you have restored my faith.

Don't know what the final score will be but at this point it hardly matters if the Flyers sneak another one in.

Yes, I'm very sorry to hear that Hossa left on a stretcher.

On the radio today they re-played that incident as reported by both the victim and the aggressor's announcers. The victim's team said it was aggressive and should result in a long suspension. The aggressor's team said it was a perfectly clean hit.

Since you folks here like the fights and all I would suppose you view it as legit. In truth, I thought he hit him with a shoulder which would make it legal (at least this was so in the old days). We'll see what happens next ....

Well I am not a fan of fights, gopher and the hit, which was illegal and down right dirty, didn't happen during a fight. It happened in open ice right in front of a ref who was so shocked he actually jumped back. Torres will be out for the rest of the play-offs and if he can't clean up his act he should be out of the game.

In other play-off news, the Senators won their game against the Rangers in OT off a first-time beauty goal from Turris and in doing so tied the series 2 - 2. Well done Sens!

Torres being himself. Why any team wants him, I don't know.

Agreed, TP.........I would hope that the days are numbered for goons like Torres.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Rinaldo after his 'outburst' during the Pens game last night..........certainly deserves more than what he got.

that hit by torres was a tad late, but he 'left his feet', 'launched himself into hossa,' and that has
always been a penalty.
its too bad he is so stupid, and can't seem to learn, because he was having a very good year, he is
a decent hockey player and had established himself on the phoenix team as one of their better players,
so he not only hurt hossa, he hurt his team as they have to go on thru the playoffs now without him,
and he hurt himself, because he will not be able to play.

those responses have been the same since hockey began, thats nothing new.
torres's hit was charging, as he 'left his feet', which has been a charging penalty forever.

he didn't actually target his head, but the hit was high, and hossa hit his head hard on the ice.
it was the open ice, fast skating charge, then he launched up into hossa, on the video it is clear
how high his feet were off of the ice, hossa was hit in the chin area as well,
as torres came up off of the ice.

the spontaneious fight is not the big problem in the game, although some day fighting might be abolished,
and it might not, it is the hits like torres did, and other hits that are targeted to the head, and the
hits from behind that run players into the boards. Those are the dangerous moves in a hockey game.
