Admittedly I haven't followed the stuff about the China issue because I thought it was pretty clear - Investigate publicly and share what's learned - and I expected Trudeau to fuck it up.

Then this popped up in my feed.

Which got me wondering after Dominic LeBlanc (the fathead and unfortunately the MP for my region... no I didn't vote for him but he's French so...) called PP out for something he said yesterday, I got looking into things.

Sooner Trudeau's gone the better, but I have to wonder, as the article brings up at the end, where would we be if PP's little bill had continued; just how would our elections be more secure?

To clarify, I honestly think NO government is safe when it comes to China because China - the Government - can't be trusted at all. Their own ideas of Manifest Destiny are what is driving them to all this, and there are too many people who put greed over everything else to let their will be done.
It seems rabble and Wiki have differing ideas of what the Conservative's election laws were. By Wiki version, I can see why turdOWE cancelled many of them. They would not act in his interest.

This one doesn’t look jolly:
1678404892253.jpeg
Joly was appearing as a witness as part of the House of Commons standing committee on procedure and house affairs tasked with studying allegations of foreign interference, alongside Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic Leblanc and other officials.

Their testimony came right after hours of filibustering from Liberal MPs to prevent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff, Katie Telford, from testifying on allegations of interference in past elections after recent media reports revealed Trudeau’s office was briefed on the issue.

Liberals took turns delivering lengthy statements to dismiss the idea of a public inquiry, as asked by ALL the opposition parties, arguing it would be too expensive and that it would be inappropriate to ask a political staff member to testify in front of committee. Thank Gawd Justin has a Majority (?) Gov’t and can just ignore the Majority of MP’s representing Canadians?

Why are the Trudeau Liberals so obsessed with the Katie cover-up? What does Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff, Katie Telford, know that they want to keep under wraps?

“For heaven’s sake, she is the chief of staff to the Prime Minister,” said Conservative MP Michael Cooper. “She’s the top adviser to the Prime Minister; she is one of the most powerful people in this government.”

He added that Telford testifying in front of committees was “hardly without precedent” since she had testified two times previously to speak on the WE Charity scandal and on sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces, and that opposition parties would not back down.
“All opposition parties are united in seeing Ms. Telford appear before committee,” he said.

OTTAWA — In the wake of new allegations of foreign interference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insisted he has no information about money from the Chinese government working its way into Canadian elections.
Global News reported Wednesday on two briefing notes it obtained through intelligence sources that indicated the government was warned in 2019 and 2022 that the Chinese government was funnelling money to Canadian election candidates.

As the evidence mounts and the days and the hours pass, it’s becoming impossibly difficult for the Liberal government to convincingly deny that during the 2019 and 2021 federal elections, Chinese diplomats were involved in a sophisticated interference operation run by regime proxies deeply embedded in the Liberal Party, and that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau knew about it, and said nothing.
For the past several weeks the Liberals have been fighting attempts to have Telford appear before a Parliamentary committee to testify on China’s interference in Canada’s elections. They have delayed votes, given long speeches to run out the clock, even refused to show up for meetings, all in an attempt to block Telford appearing.

Each day that goes by, each attempt at delay and obstruction to letting Canadians find out the truth of what is going on just makes the Liberals look guilty. The prime minister keeps saying that this is not a partisan issue, and he’s right, but his actions and those of his government are turning this into a partisan issue.

This could go badly for the Conservatives as well, but Poilievre is calling for full transparency while Trudeau tries to shut the story down.

Investigate it. Either the guy is guilty or he’s not. If he’s not innocent, then charge him! Done deal. We need to take this seriously regardless of somebody’s political stripe because this isn’t about parties or political stripes, but about interference in our elections.

One of the documents that refer to the funding schemes is a January 2022 Privy Council Office (PCO) report, which asserts that the CCP’s Toronto-area network included 11 or more 2019 federal candidates, 13 or more aides, and an Ontario MPP. We need to chase this down, publicly and transparently, to restore faith in our own democratic system.

How the PM continues to lie and (apparently) get away with it for the most part is baffling to me. I'm hoping this will translate in the next election to him going away, far far away to (perhaps) China where he admires their government.

Rather than explain what he knows, Trudeau is suggesting there will be an investigation into what he knows. Will NSICOP study whether it, itself, already briefed the prime minister? Will it feature members of the committee asking themselves questions?
The federal Conservatives, New Democrats and Bloc Quebecois have all called for a public inquiry even though information could come out that would hurt them. Only the Liberals have resisted the public knowing more about this issue and that makes them look guilty.

Justin Trudeau’s Liberals are certainly desperate to stop Katie Telford from testifying about China’s election interference.

Telford, Trudeau’s chief of staff, has testified before Commons committees at least twice in the past couple of years on controversial topics with no issues.

That fact really does make you wonder why the Liberals are so adamant that Telford not testify. It certainly feeds into the notion that the Liberals have something to hide.

Of course they have something to hide and more importantly someone to hide.

Trudeau’s smugness and the arrogance of his MPs this week in filibustering a parliamentary committee that sought to force the prime minister’s chief of staff, Katie Telford, to testify about what security briefings she and Trudeau received on foreign interference in our elections. It was a shocking abuse of parliamentary process.

Conservative, Bloc Quebecois and NDP MPs tried to pass a motion calling for Telford to appear. After filibustering all morning, Liberals on the committee refused to show up in the afternoon and the committee could not continue because of a lack of quorum.

That’s a slap in the face to voters demanding answers as to how much the prime minister and his staff know about foreign interference and when they knew it.

Trudeau’s swaggering self-importance stems from the so-called “supply and confidence” agreement with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh. In voting for a minority government, Canadians elected to hold Trudeau accountable. Singh swept that away when he signed a deal to vote with Trudeau until June 2025.
1678800019185.jpegSo, the PM is back to his high-handed, bob-and-weave ways of deflecting blame on everyone except himself.
The federal Conservatives, New Democrats and Bloc Quebecois have all called for a public inquiry even though information could come out that would hurt them. Only the Liberals have resisted the public knowing more about this issue and that makes them look guilty.
Instead of calling a public inquiry, Trudeau will appoint a “rapporteur” — whatever that is — to probe the interference. So this yet-to-be-named person of his choice will investigate him. So much for transparency. Trudeau will investigate himself.

On Wednesday, highly respected Quebec MP and former astronaut Marc Garneau quit. While he has yet to give a reason, when a person of integrity chooses to quit in the midst of such a grave scandal, it sends a message that even his own MPs have had enough.

Meanwhile, Trudeau and his inner circle are foundering like dinosaurs in the tar pits. The more they struggle, the deeper they get stuck in their own malodorous muck.
No matter what Chinese government influence there may have been during the last election, the outcome was clear: Voters refused to give Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a majority government he tried to achieve by calling an unnecessary election. More people voted for other parties than voted Liberal.

They handed him a rebuke and kept him to another minority. It’s time to remind him of that humiliation now, as it seems to have completely escaped his memory.

Even the Cheerleaders are pussyfooting around reality on this stench:

A House committee looking into reports that China interfered in Canadian elections appears to be at a standstill as Liberal MPs continue to filibuster a motion that would compel the prime minister's chief of staff to testify.

The Conservatives have been pushing for Katie Telford to appear before the committee to answer questions about recent media reports claiming the Prime Minister's Office [PMO] was briefed on Beijing's alleged interference in recent federal elections.

According to reporting by Global News, the Privy Council Office prepared a report for the Trudeau government warning that Chinese officials in Toronto had disbursed money to a "covert network tasked to interfere in Canada's 2019 election."

"We have no information on any federal candidates receiving money from China. That is still the case," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the House of Commons last week.

That’s the sound bite, but is that what he’s being asked (?) or is that a portion of what’s being asked…& the only this sort’a answered…WE-Style with a side of SNC-Lavatory.

With the backing of NDP and Bloc Québécois members, the Conservatives have the votes to pass the motion to summon Telford to testify before the House procedures committee. But Liberal MPs have staged a multi-day filibuster to keep the motion from going to a vote.

Conservative MP Michael Barrett said he and other opposition members on the committee are growing frustrated.

"We're just listening to them talk out the clock," he said. "[They're] talking about all order of things. Their work in university, their travel overseas … things that have nothing to do with the matter at hand."

Even though the House of Commons isn't sitting this week, the committee met Tuesday morning in an attempt to vote on the motion. But the Liberals have continued their filibuster, pushing the meeting into the evening hours. The meeting is still ongoing as of publication time.

The Liberals have maintained that the Conservatives only want Telford to testify so the opposition can score political points….because Telford has never put herself in this position before?

"The Conservative Party wants to pursue this for political gain and we want to do the work based in reality," (?) Liberal MP Ryan Turnbull said during an hour-long statement at Tuesday's committee.

NDP MP Rachel Blaney used the Liberals' filibustering to call on the government to strike a public inquiry into election interference.

"It's shameful and Canadians deserve answers from the Liberals, not continued delays," she said in a media statement. "This filibustering from the Liberals proves our point that [the committee] isn't the right place for this investigation. Canadians need a public inquiry to get the answers they deserve." (Right Jagmeet? Right?)
1678841121684.jpeg

Barrett accused the Liberals of holding up the committee's other business, including a review of proposed riding boundary changes.

"It can't be addressed until this motion is disposed of and the Liberals are the only thing between the committee moving on with its other business," he said.

Telford has appeared twice before (Commons committees — once before a committee looking into sexual misconduct in the military, and once before a committee investigating the WE charity controversy….so there’s your precedent that Trudeau & the Clown Show are protesting over.)

Canadians want a PUBLIC Inquiry. Trudeau wants a “Repporteur” that he picks to secretly decide if there should be a public inquiry or not…bypassing parliament and the desire of more than 70% of Canadians.
The irony, that Bardish Chagger (Former Trudeau Cabinet Minister & the Minister of Excuses) is Chairing this fiasco of a Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs….wow…that’s wow….from testifying in a previous Liberal Scandal in front of an Ethics Committee (WE) to the Chair of this current one?:

“Holy Optics Batpeople!!” OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the search for answers on foreign interference should be free of partisanship, even as his party’s MPs have filibustered for more than 24 hours at a key parliamentary committee?????

Without naming names, Trudeau said some politicians are not taking the issue seriously. Liberal MPs have been filibustering — essentially giving long speeches — to prevent a vote on having Trudeau’s chief of staff Katie Telford from testifying.

Here’s one one life’s mysteries. Did you hear about the wealthy donors from the Chinese community in Toronto and Vancouver that flooded donations to Justin Trudeau’s Montreal riding association? It happened a few years ago now, but the details, including the amount of money and circumstances around it, should lead to more questions.

This story came out about two weeks ago when Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet raised the issue of donations to Trudeau’s Papineau riding association in 2016 at the same time a Chinese bank was seeking federal approval to operate in Canada.

“In just two days, the prime minister’s riding received $70,000 from donors of Chinese origin, and at the same time, the government authorized the establishment of a Chinese bank in Canada,” Blanchet said on Feb. 28. Hmmm…how ‘bout that?
1678936256705.jpeg
The Chinese Bank in question is WealthONE, recently in the news after receiving a massive fine for failing to abide by anti-money laundering provisions in the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act. The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) levied a $675,500 fine against the bank on Feb. 15 as an administrative penalty. FINTRAC, however, noted that the violations were not related to money laundering or terrorist financing offences.

According to several media reports, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland had been issuing warnings about the bank, including about major shareholders, over national security concerns. The bank, meanwhile, has said the major shareholders who sparked concerns are no longer directors of the financial institution and were not involved in its day-to-day operations. One board member, until he won a December byelection to become the newest Liberal MP, was Charles Souza.
1678936397919.jpeg
Yet, back in 2016, as the bank was seeking approval, there were several fundraisers held for the Liberal Party involving Trudeau and wealthy Chinese-Canadian businessmen. In May 2016, one such fundraiser saw Trudeau hosted by Benson Wong, chair of the Chinese Business Chamber of Commerce, along with 32 other wealthy guests.
1678936514960.jpeg
(Ethics commissioner Mary Dawson concluded in February 2017 that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not contravene the Conflict of Interest Act when he participated in two fundraising events last year that were the subject of opposition complaints. Hmmm…how ‘bout that?)

Shenglin Xian, a billionaire who made his fortune in the insurance business after immigrating to Canada, was in attendance. Xian was waiting for approval for his proposal for the WealthONE bank at the time of the fundraiser.
1678936630996.jpeg
Also in attendance was Zhang Bin, the man who would go on to facilitate a $1 million donation split between the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation and the University of Montreal to provide scholarships in the late prime minister’s name.

About six weeks after the Toronto event, Justin Trudeau held a similar fundraiser in Richmond, B.C., and that’s when donations started flowing to his riding association.
1678936944899.jpeg
Over just two days, July 6 and 7, 2016, roughly 50 donors from the Chinese-Canadian community in British Columbia and Ontario donated a total of $67,080. The donations ranged in size from $1,382.41 to $1,500, the maximum allowable donation at the time.

What’s shocking is that according to Elections Canada data, these donations accounted for about 80% of the riding associations donations for the entire year.
1678936998423.jpeg
Canadians can donate to any riding association or candidate they like, but the timing, size and one-time nature of these donations definitely raises a lot of questions.

Not that we would ever get answers from Trudeau.

The Liberal Party did respond to Le Journal de Montreal when it broke this story of the odd donations, telling the newspaper that all rules were followed.

The ethics commissioner found that Trudeau did not contravene the Conflicts of Interest Act when he attended the fundraiser. However, attending a fundraising event with Xian when WealthONE was awaiting approval raises serious questions.
1678937337252.jpeg
This story would be a bad one for any politician, coming as it does as Trudeau continues to evade questions about the Chinese government’s alleged election interference only makes it worse.

Justin Trudeau’s Canadian publisher struck a deal in the first year after the Liberal government took office for a Chinese state-owned publishing house to republish the prime minister’s memoir, Common Ground, for Chinese readers under a new title: The Legend Continues.

The book was released in China around the same time Chinese billionaires were donating money to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, and Beijing-connected businessmen were paying to attend Liberal cash-for-access fundraisers with Mr. Trudeau.
HarperCollins Canada would not discuss the deal for the Chinese publication of the book or whether any money went to Mr. Trudeau’s private holding company, which is in a blind trust.

“I’m afraid these things are confidential business terms that are not typically discussed with third parties,” HarperCollins editor Jennifer Lambert said in an e-mail.
