Never tried to answer a question , but it is in black and white . The feds will never allow regional self government in the west , as that would take away their monetary control . The whole set up of confederation insures that . Why do you think the Maritimes are three separate entities ? They had to much financial clout in 1867 and that would never do for Upper and lower Canada . Also why the prairies are three separate provinces . Confederation is a stuffed deck .
You're right...they won't. But should they? My premise is that the West is under represented...and they aren't the only ones that have weak or no representation in Ottawa. If the Federal Government is going to allow self representation for other regions or groups, how can they not allow this for the West? They definitely can't without creating a massive amount of division, disunity, and anger in Canada, like we need more of that. It would seem to make much more sense to amend the current system or at least the attitude in Ottawa to better represent under represented regions and try to salvage some semblance of unity and cohesion in the country.
I know it has been a common practice for Liberals to divide and conquer, and it worked exceedingly well in past, but it feels like people in the West have pretty much had enough of the standard issue Laurentian fuckery. This isn't the 80's, the West doesn't want in anymore...increasingly, they want out.
P.S. you asked JLM the question and got a comment from the peanut gallery .
I welcome all comments...peanut gallery included, nice to see someone engage.
