There are 2 levels. Everyone is blaming Ford for closing Ontario Place. He didn't. His plan is stupid but could not have happened without the first stupid act. And they think the fix to Ontario Place is to put the same assholes back in that closed it in the first place.
So. . . kinda like the Bundesliga?

If you go 0-34 on the season in stupid, do you get relegated to Stupidliga 2? Or promoted to Stupidliga 1?

Ontario Place was closed by Katheryn Wynn. She just let it sit rotting. Ford did something (stupid) but the downfall of Ontario Place started with the previous Liberal government.

Closed.

As you said, Ford did the rest.

And he COULD have done something with it instead of what he did with it which pretty much gives it away for 'free'.

He could of. But the moment it became closed it became a liability on his books. I can see why he was moved to do something with it. But I don't agree with his choice. But I also am not sure what other viable alternatives there were. I am sure the Liberals would have found some Liberal donors to give it to given the chance.

The best option was to have kept it open. Yes it was a money loser but it was doing what it was intended to do.

“Look at Me! I’m trying to be all relevant and such!!” Quote of Jagmeet Singh?
View attachment 24476
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh wants you to know that he condemns “the horrific Hamas terror attacks in Israel in which 1,200 people were killed,” as he put it in a statement on Monday, the first anniversary of the October 7 massacre. But Singh also wants you to know that he doesn’t think Israel should do anything about it.

Like much of the progressive left in Canada, Singh doesn’t appear to think Israel has any right to protect its citizens or defend itself against external threats, and he is willing to spread distortions and lies in order to paint Israel as an irredeemable monster state.

Rather than issuing a statement to commemorate October 7 and be done with it, Singh attacked “the response” from “Netanyahu’s extremist government” — a response that, according to the NDP leader, was not aimed at eliminating the very real threat from Hamas, but instead constitutes a “brutal assault on the people of Gaza” and an example of “collective punishment.”

He then, insanely and without citing a shred of evidence, accused Israel — sorry, “Netanyahu’s extremist government” — of committing an “ongoing genocide.”
October 7 was a vicious assault on Jewish people by a genocidal death cult that aims to exterminate Israel from existence. And yet, any response from Israel was going to be condemned by “progressives” the world over, who wave away Hamas’s assault as mere “resistance.” The terrorist group started this war, and is now losing it. Progressives want Israel to lose the war instead.

Many of them won’t be satisfied unless Israel permits its enemies to invade without consequence, and gives them free run of the country until the Jewish state is no more. When the fanatics in the streets chant “From Palestine to Lebanon, Israel will soon be gone,” that is exactly what they mean, and this is who the NDP has chosen to side with.

The assault on Gaza has indeed been devastating for the enclave. Some 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to extremely untrustworthy figures from the Hamas-controlled health ministry. However, Israel has killed nearly half that number of Hamas fighters, resulting in the lowest ratio of combatant to civilian casualties of any recent conflict, and perhaps of any modern conflict.

Hamas, on the hand, has turned schools, mosques and hospitals into military bases, and uses its population as a human shield to ensure Israel faces maximum opprobrium, a deliberate strategy, of which it is quite proud. Useful idiots, like those in the Liberal government in Canada, the Democratic party in the United States, the British Labour party and, of course, the NDP, swallow Hamas propaganda without question.

'NDP is Communist' sign erected outside Lululemon founder's mansion has neighbours talking
'On brand,' quipped one person who had come down to gaze upon the colossus

A sign outside Vancouver billionaire Chip Wilson's home claims the B.C. NDP are Communists as voters prepare for the Oct. 19, 2024, provincial election.
Anyone who wants to enjoy Vancouver can stroll down Point Grey Road, where the pavement shimmers, the boulevards are grassy and green, and where, from the public access point on the west side of Chip Wilson’s concrete mansion, kayakers can be seen silently gliding across the water.

That stroll now includes a “see the sign for myself” option for visitors curious about the billboard the Lululemon billionaire erected in front of his property earlier this week with his commentary on the provincial election: “Eby will tell you the Conservatives are ‘Far Right’ but neglects saying the NDP is ‘Communist.'”

Whether visitors want to deepen their understanding of the issues during an election cycle in which the return of plastic straws and relief from the 25 cent shopping bag levy, bridges, tunnels and tax breaks are among the parties’ election promises, the stream of onlookers was steady on Sunday morning.

“On brand,” quipped a neighbour who had come out to gaze upon the colossus nestled among Wilson’s perfectly groomed hedge.

“It’s aggressive, but not something I’m used to seeing here in Canada,” said her companion, a genial American.

The women didn’t want to be named — one because the conversation in her family has become too divisive, the other because speaking out about politics in a public forum could get her fired from her local government job.

They pointed out the sign’s grammar, including a period inside the quote marks around the word “communist” as a matter of some concern.

“Well, he’s right,” said a tall, wiry man who stopped to snap a photo of the sign. “The communists want to redistribute the wealth.”

Does he think he might benefit from such a redistribution, if and when the communists come to power?

“I don’t live in B.C.,” he said.

A biker pointed out that size matters: in his neighbourhood, Kerrisdale, B.C. Conservative signs are proliferating on the houses with the biggest price tags. Houses “in the $2.5 to $3 million range,” on the other hand, have the smaller NDP signs, he said.

Another person pointed out that the sign faces west. Drivers wouldn’t see it unless they get mousetrapped in the no-exit loop that was installed when Point Grey Road was redesigned as a cycling and pedestrian route dubbed the Seaside Greenway.

That project generated a number of lawn signs during its genesis, primarily attacking city hall for “wasting millions” on sidewalk upgrades — the same luxuriously wide sidewalks on which visitors to the sign now cluster.

A young man on an electric bike was concerned about the sign’s proximity to what appears to be a B.C. Hydro transformer box, which contain high-voltage electrical equipment.

“Is that legal?” he asked.

On Sunday evening the sign was heavily defaced and slogans were painted on Wilson’s gates.

One of several slogans that were painted on the home of Lululemon multi-billionaire Chip Wilson after he erected a sign opposed to the B.C. NDP in the leadup to the Oct. 19 provincial election.
According to municipal bylaws, election and political signs are allowed between the backs of sidewalks and adjoining private property, although B.C. Hydro requires 0.9 metres between any landscaping and the transformer box.

Legalities aside, one observer compared Wilson to another Vancouver resident who spent years protesting ICBC with lawn signs, back before the redevelopment of Cambie simply erased him from view.

Wilson may in fact be part of an urban phenomenon that has not received enough attention: grouchy old men who feel their voices haven’t been heard, their lawn signs a public protest using ritual (the unannounced erection of the sign), narrative (however grammatically incorrect) and occupation of space to assert hegemony and address imbalances of power in the public sphere.

Or he may be trying to do a public service, using hyperbole in an attempt to get everyone to tone down their rhetoric.

It’s hard to tell.

Eby’s response to the sign last week was brief. “When you are so rich that the Red Hot Chili Peppers play your birthday party, it’s possible to lose perspective. I would just say to Mr. Wilson, ‘People are struggling out there, and we need to provide support to them,'” he said.

Wilson has not commented and did not answer the door on Sunday, but a hand-lettered amendment on the sign that read “This guy lives in an $80,000,000 house earned off the backs of workers. The system is rigged for the rich. F— you Chip,” was quickly painted over.

Let me be clear here though - the Libs have been part of the equation too. Neither party has done enough for health care.

But I will say for fact that Higgs at least has given less of a damn about health care in NB than any previous Con or Lib government.

Every Government, provincial and federal, has known for decades this was going to happen, and none did anything about it. If anything, they helped push things towards this end where now it's either a two tier system or a push for full of privatization. And there's been NO ONE listening to those of us who work in health care to change things.

But right now, the Cons are doing worse than any previous.

Numbers don't lie — under Trudeau crime up significantly in Toronto and across Canada
Author of the article:Matthew Lau
Published Oct 08, 2024 • Last updated 2 days ago • 2 minute read

It’s no secret that politicians often cherry-pick statistics instead of telling the full story when the full story doesn’t look great for them. For example, amid concerns of rising auto theft and crime, the federal Liberals recently highlighted that auto theft is down 17% versus last year. But this statement deserves scrutiny.

It’s true, according to an insurance fraud prevention group, there was a 17% year-over-year decline in auto thefts in the first half of 2024. But this doesn’t mean the number of stolen cars is low. The reason for the year-over-year decline is that auto thefts spiked significantly in 2023. While down in the first half of 2024, auto thefts remain at elevated levels relative to prior years.

For example, the Toronto Police Service reports 5,049 auto thefts in the first half of 2024 — down 21% year-over year, but still very high relative to the first half of 2022 (4,480 auto thefts) and the first half of 2021 (2,769 auto thefts). In light of an 82% increase in auto thefts in Toronto compared to just three years ago, the Trudeau government shouldn’t celebrate too loudly its record at stopping auto theft.

In addition, cherry-picking auto theft stats ignores crime increases in other areas. In the first half of 2024 (again, according to Toronto Police Service data), assaults were up 8% year-over-year, breaking and entering was up 6%, homicides were up 36%, robberies were up 21%, and sexual violations were up 17%.

And it’s not just Toronto.

Take York Region as another example. Faced with criticism that violent crime had risen dramatically in Ontario since the Liberals took office, a Liberal MP from York Region called such criticism “false and misleading” and declared “our community is safe,” citing the York Region Police’s published crime statistics. But what do York Region crime statistics actually show?

Like in Toronto, in the first half of 2024 auto thefts were down significantly versus the first half of 2023, and weapons violations and sexual violations were also down. However, assaults, breaking and entering, drug violations and robberies were all up. And again, the longer-term trend shows most types of crime on the rise. Despite the decline versus 2023, in the first half of 2024 auto thefts were 120% higher than in 2021. And compared to 2021, the first half of 2024 in York Region saw 58% more assaults, 99% more breaking and entering incidents, 193% more robberies, 69% more firearm violations and 51% more violations with other weapons.

Across Canada, violent crime has risen significantly under the Liberals. That’s just a fact. Statistics Canada’s violent crime severity index in 2023 was 41% higher than in 2014, and a recent report from the Ottawa-based Macdonald-Laurier Institute revealed a surge in violent crime in Canada’s largest urban centres.

However you crunch the numbers, the Trudeau government’s record on crime is nothing to boast about.

I've been trucking for 27 years, and I have been to some pretty scary places. I was never robbed, although there were two attempted hijackings, one in Rochester, NY, and the other in Elizabethtown, NJ.
Both would-be hijackers stepped out from behind a clump of bushes and stepped in front of my truck, waving their arms, but both stepped off when I purposely pushed down on the throttle. Anyone in the industry knows that if you stop, you will probably be looking for a phone and a ride as the hijackers take off with your rig and its load.

So, technically, I have never been robbed. That is, until last year when I was robbed not once but twice, and a block from my house. They broke into my truck and stole all my shit, the pillows off my bed, and my bedding. My underwear, a picture of my grandson, and all my tools. The total was around $2500.00 worth of everything.

In addition, they stole all my fuel, about 600 liters. They also robbed two other trucks on the street.
Finding a more secure place to park was a battle. Nobody wants trucks around. It took a couple of weeks and one more robbery before it happened.
I started unloading everything out of the truck every night. I put buzzers in the jockey box. And they took those, took my pillows again, but left the sleeping bagk, and they drained my fuel. But there wasn't much to steel inside.

I have been everywhere, man: up north, down south, east coast, west coast, and all the big cities, NYC, Chicago, and Dallas. I stopped running the US after I went to Alberta. It didn't make sense to run the states for a third of the money and triple the headache from customs to foreign DOT, and I haven't since 2012.

If I were able to go back to 2012 and say to myself, "Hey, come back to 2025 and take a look," to which, 2012 Me would say, "Fuck that! Give me the 649 numbers." But if I were to show anyone from 2012 what Canada looks like now. Overflowing tent cities, the free drugs, the neutering of our just system. The Woke Cancel Culture McCarthy phenomena. And what about our Catch and Release justice system? Is there a more accurate description of Canada's Justice System?

Last week, just north of where I live, a woman of 18 offered a ride to four youths in the Town of Westlock. At some point in the ride, they decided to get her to stop, and they dragged her into a wooded area, stabbed her repeatedly, and left her for dead. Thankfully, she was found by a pair riding an ATV and is expected to survive. They administered first aid at the scene, and the following chain of professionals saved this 18-year-old's life. The four youths (attempted killers) cannot be identified because of the young offenders act. That story was barely mouse fart on the radio and in the local online paper. If I were a betting man, I would guess that the drug trade is involved in this, but we will be spoon-fed the truth they think we should know.

In the last few years, bodies have been turning up on the outskirts of our town. They found a woman's body in the woods about a year and a half ago, about five klicks away. Her boyfriend was already serving his sentence for her murder, but they couldn't find the body until a farmer did. They also executed a couple of people, shot in the head, car burned. Native Gangs were purging Eastern European gangs. They bring them out here to kill or dispose of.

I've lived here for thirteen years.
The change came on like a boiling frog in 2015, gradual at first, and then they turned the stove too High, and ta-da!

Mexican mayor found decapitated, head displayed on car, six days after taking office

Alejandro Arcos, mayor of the city of Chilpancingo, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, was found decapitated and his severed head propped up on the roof of his car just six days after taking office.
A mayor in Mexico was found decapitated and his severed head propped up on the roof of his car just six days after taking office in the city of Chilpancingo, in the state of Guerrero.

The body of Alejandro Arcos, 43, was found inside his pickup truck on Sunday night while his head lay on top of the vehicle, the New York Post reported.

Residents were still reeling from last Thursday’s slaying of its newly appointed city council secretary Francisco Tapia.

“Our mayor of Chilpancingo, Alejandro Arcos, has been murdered, and just three days ago the secretary of this same City Council, Francisco Tapia. They had been in office for less than a week,” Sen. Alejandro Moreno, the national leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, wrote on X.

“Young and honest officials who sought progress for their community,” he continued, adding his condolences for the men’s families.

Moreno noted that “given the situation of ungovernability in Guerrero,” the city has requested that the state attorney general’s office probe both killings, which confirmed they would be investigating.

“His loss mourns the entire Guerrero society and fills us with indignation,” Guerrero Gov. Evelyn Salgado condemned the murders in a statement shared on X, vowing to hold accountable those responsible.

Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero and home to tourist hot spot Acapulco, is notorious for its years of struggles with violent crime, mostly due to conflicts between two rival drug gangs, the Ardillos and the Tlacos.

A report by Integralia Consultants said that criminal organizations in Mexico focus their politically motivated attacks at the municipal level because mayors can offer them impunity due to their links with law enforcement and the local economy, CNN reported.

It noted that gangs often finance campaigns during election season, intimidating candidates and violently intervening to compel politicians to cooperate with them.

At least six candidates for public offices were killed in Guerrero leading up to Mexico’s June elections.

The city’s previous mayor, Norma Otilia Hernández, was filmed allegedly holding a meeting with leaders of the gangs at a restaurant.

She was booted from her party, allowing Arcos to run.

On the day of his death, Arcos, who took office as mayor on Oct. 1, had visited Chilpancingo neighbourhoods and met with residents whose homes were damaged by Hurricane John.

He also appeared on a radio show that fateful day and called on the federal government to increase the presence of security forces in the city and expand protection for city government staffers after Tapia’s murder.

“We will continue working, we will continue fighting for our community,” Arcos said, according to the Daily Mail.

“We have always talked about a peace project, it has been our banner, our proposal and that is what we aspire to. We are not people of conflict.”
