Wasted year?

I've seen dogs trained like that. We can't see the person's other hand. A dog can be trained to a simple hand signal to refuse something. We had a dog that was trained like that. We could sit a small piece of meat on her nose and she wouldn't move until she got the signal.

Was it submissive, or tending towards cowering when you gave the signal? That's why I asked. It doesn't look like a normal response to a stay command.

No, not submissive but she would watch you like a hawk for the first sign of an okay to go for the meat.

That is what our dog is like as well. Some times he even lets out whimpers. To me it looks like the dog is associating Barrack Obama with something negative. The body position, and the turning head kinda gives me that impression.

Could be the way the dog was trained. You can train a dog with reward or punishment. I don't think it was anything to do with Obama. The dog could be turning it's head because taking the food without the proper hand signal might have once resulted in a slap on the nose.

No doubt, but as I said in my original post, His popularity by this time last year seemed insurmountable. Turned out, it was.

What are you talking about, YJ? Last year this time he wasn’t even the President. I think last year this time he was trailing McCain in the polls (if only slightly). I may not be exactly right, but his popularity last year this time was around 45 or 46%.

Also as Tonington pointed out, the year is not even 3/4th done yet. Considering that he did not become president until 20th January, he has been president for less than eight months, that is less than 2/3rd of the year.

Your whole hypothesis is deeply flawed. You understandably could not wait for the whole year, because if health care reform is passed by the end of the year (it looks like they may pass something), you could not post nonsense like this.

So far his accomplishments are totally dwarfed by his utter and total failures.

That is not what your far right Republican friends say, Yukon Jack. On far right websites, the posters, columnists are hopping mad because according to them, Obama has already transformed USA into a Socialist, Communist state, it will take a very long time to undo what damage Obama has done.

In fact, that is one of the reasons why the far right wants him imprisoned as an illegal alien, as a Muslim terrorist right away, so that he won’t do any more damage.

If one listens to the far right, the eight months (and only an extreme partisan would call less than eight months a year, or almost a year) have been a total disaster, Obama has been remarkable successful in transforming USA into a Communist country.

Your far right friends don’t agree with you.

Could some of his admirers please tell me where is he going to send the terrorists presently detained at Gitmo?

The very place He vowed to close within a year?

Too fast, too soon? Foot in the mouth?

Perhaps he will put them up in the White House, YJ. After all, according to the far right Republican base, Obama himself is a terrorist, he is one of them.

The Democrats are just beginning to realize that maybe they picked a Socialist at their leader?

Only a Socialist, ironsides? Not a Communist? I remember one column in Town Hall a few months ago. According to that columnist, Obama is a spy for USSR (not Russia, mind you, but former USSR).

Do you even know what a socialist is?

Taxpayers (me) now own large corporations (ex. auto).
Taxpayers (me) now own banks.
Taxpayers (me) bailing out home owners.
Taxpayers (me) paying off loans for people who over extended themselves.
Taxpayers (me) paying health insurance for people who chose for what ever reason not to have it.

No great political philosophy on my part, I am a capitalist. You want something earn it.

"Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically-to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives."
Sounds a lot like Obama.

Ironsides, so is Obama a Socialist or a Democratic Socialist? Does he espouse Socialism or Social Democracy? The two are very different, you know.

Anyway, just commenting in general, a presidency cannot be defined by first eight months in office, it does not even give us any indication as to how the four or eight years of the president would be like.

Look at Clinton. At the end of one year, his popularity was down, the health care reform was in tatters, he had enacted a tax increase. Then came the 1994 election, Democrats lost both Senate and House.

It looked as if Clinton was finished. Then the economy started to turn around. The tax increase he had enacted was instrumental in reducing the deficit and convert it into a surplus. Just two years later Clinton won reelection easily.

Economy continued to prosper and Clinton left office with his popularity in high 60s.

The flip side is Bush. At the end of one year, he was still riding the wave of prosperity, generated by Clinton. He had just given huge tax cuts, mainly benefiting the rich, but to some extent benefiting middle class also.

He had borrowed hugely on the credit card. The rewards were obvious, the bill wasn’t due for a few years. Bush was popular. Then came Iraq war, it became treason to criticize Bush, his popularity soared to 90%.

Then the bill for the party became due, deficits skyrocketed. Iraq war came back to bite him. Then came the biggest meltdown since the great depression, brought on by the excess of Bush and the Republicans. Bush left office in disgrace, his approval in the 20s.

In my opinion these have been a fairly successful 8 months for Obama. However, it does not tell us if his presidency will be a success or not.

He is not a Capitalist, he is not espousing Social Democracy. He is one of the "Three Musketeers" remember Pelosi, Reid, Deen and Obama. Feinstein is just a wannabe. Socialists - "One for all and all for one"

Obama is emptying out the Treasury faster than Bush ever could hope for. Spending hording those stimulus packages who knows what. What we do know is that the unemployed are not seeing any of it in the form of new jobs. The only new jobs that are appearing are goverment jobs. Companies are still planning more mass layoffs.
