RE: Washington Furious ov
I'm glad that somebody said it, everyone was thinking it. The US is just trying to save their economy from the damage this cutting emissions will do, but the fact of the matter is that we have to do it no matter what, whether it's desireable or not. We have to cut these gas emissions or the planet will have a catastrophic climate shift, and possibly wipe us out.
Threats from the US is a joke, because we have the US by the balls. At our whim, we could crash the US economy, but this would be MAD (Mutially Assured Distruction), since the world economy would collapse, this includes ours. However, if the US did threaten to invade, we'd just blow up our own refineries and gas lines, and you'd freeze and starve to death in a month. This would create total chaos within the US, and any kind of an invasion would be futile, and most likely it would result in a second American civil war. The achilles heel of the US is energy, energy you get from us, and don't forget that.
I don't think it even matters if the US won't sign onto the kyoto accord, we'll just add a federal oil production tax to fund the development of sustainable resources within our own country. If American's want to hurt us, cutting their emissions is about all they can do, since their wastefulness is what's making our country filthy rich on resource revenues.
The funny thing is that if the US didn't consume so much, Canada's emissions would be naturally cut as most of our pollution comes from the extraction and processing of raw materials to satisfy the US' wastefulness. If the US did cut it's wastefulness, Canadian emission targets would fall right in line Kyoto without us Canadians sacrificing any of our luxuries. This is why we aren't doing anything to cut emissions, as limiting the US emission, would do this for us. See, we are the smartest country in the world, and we kept our population regulated so that we can live this way forever without enough of an impact to effect the planet. The problem isn't emissions that coincide with our way of life, but rather it's that the worlds population is simply too big for everyone to live like us. The US has around 16 times as many people living on an even smaller landmass. It's unfair to say that the average Canadian can't produce anymore than the average American, simply because they have 16 times our population, and should only be producing 1/16 the emissions of the average Canadian. This would mean that the US would have to become a 2nd or even a 3rd world nation by complying. Every country in the world, except a few, needs to reduce it's population or it's quality of living, as you can't have both. The US has decided it will steal the resources from others instead, which will blow up in their faces quite literally. Here's why.
The time to reduce the world populous slowly through birthrate contol has long since past. The US, China, India, and the EU have all decided that they won't compromise on population reduction or quality of life reduction, so war is inevitable over the means to maintain both. Do to the greed of these nations, they are going to get their populations reduced, and their desired quality of life will most likely also be lost, as infrastructure from such a war won't be easily replaced without cheap resources like in the past. If you are a lower class citizen in any of these Countries, expect to see combat. Us Canadians are just going to sit back and make a crapload from this war, and use wealth to create a sustainable domestic economy. Then we'll help the countries mentioned above get back on their feet by aiding them with our resources, but the catch will be that they'll have to adopt the Canadian way of life too. I bet everyone wished they listened to those crazy environmentalists now eh?
