The Good News in this story is that the deceased no longer has to live in that blasted pit of despair, ennui & abuse @ the end of the Island highway.

Yes, an "ilk" is a large hoofed animal, akin to caribou, and domesticable. Thus, when someone speaks of "and your ilk," they are essentially saying "and the horse you rode in on."

I think you may have confused that with Elk. hmmmmm, elk. Haven't had a elk in awhile...

I also haven't been out riding in a long time...nearly a year actually. Miss the smell of horses...
