He's almost certainly not a myth, the scholarly work I've seen makes a pretty compelling case that he was real, in the sense that there was a charismatic preacher in 1st century Palestine who said and did some of the things reported about him, but a lot of mythology has grown up around him since. Virgin births and miracles and resurrections are pretty common motifs in ancient religions, so if you're in competition with them your boy needs to have some of the same tales told about him.

It isn't a race. So no competition.

No, it's not a race as such, but if you think there's no competition among faiths you're not paying attention.

A very real person that made an impact like no other.
A billion Muslims and Hindus might disagree. Besides, it's the mythology being taken as true that's had the impact, not the person.

A tad earlier he was not a myth. Cliffy make up your mind.
I said Jesus was a historical dude, but the Christ (deification of Jesus) story is a myth. Please follow along.

Only that ones that see a man and not the path the man walked up the mountain to enlightenment.
That is what I was talking about. Christ is a title of an enlightened being, not a god. Jesus showed a way, he wasn't the way.

The only god in my cosmology is Me. You really haven't been paying attention to my posts on this subject.

It works both ways Cliffy.

Jesus is the path both physically and metaphysically. Yin and yang, kharma and dharma, up and down, as above so below. North and South polarities. The link between the mud on the bottom and the back of the turtle.

It's not worship of the man but what any man can achieve by following the path.

I am aware of that. All I'm saying is that it is not the only path. There are many. In the end it is the one that most suits the individual that counts. Most Christians think that it is all about worship and not about going in the direction it is pointing. In the end, it is a personal spiritual journey; a road less traveled, not the super highway of religion.

There is only one path but many on ramps to the freeway (path) to enenlightenmentnd soSophia

Small c Christians that re-wrote the Bible for convenience or were mislead by powers that be or those who follow the path without knowing it?

Follow the otter or the man on the cross, the meaning is the same.

I've been hearing about enlightenment like that my whole life and nobody's ever offered a useful explanation of what it really means. Enlightenment to me means the realization that the world is consistent and comprehensible and we can figure it out by rational investigation, and the thing about doing that is that everybody who does it gets the same answers, which suggests it has at least something to do with how things really are. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, et al, prescribe quite different paths and come to quite different conclusions which are mutually inconsistent, both among themselves and with the results of rational investigation, which suggests those paths and their end points are fabrications and have very little to do with how things really are.

Aren't you the guy who blames a God who doesn't exist for the bad things that happen in the material world, but won't give credit for where it is due for LIFE and all it's splendors?

Life is the path to enlightenment. It is the journey, not the destination. A truly enlightened being will tell the seeker to "piss off, find your own way". As Jesus reportedly said, "the kingdom of heaven is within." It is finding that heaven (happiness) within that is enlightenment. Enlightenment is to "lighten up, eh!" No one can become enlightened by being serious about getting there. When one can finally see the cosmic joke and that the joke is on them, then one may have arrived at heaven's gate. St. Peter is actually Monty Python.

Elimination of stres brings health, happiness and a peace of mind like no other.

We are spiritual beings who need to take on form of life to reproduce.

Taking on a life form also involves taking on the emotional responses which are very confusingt to a being that has never experiences emotion of the life form in the mater.

No, I'm not that guy. I've said that IF he exists he has a lot to answer for, and argued that the existence of all those bad things precludes the existence of a deity with the characteristics ascribed to God. As for life and all its splendors, consider briefly such things as intestinal parasites and deadly bacteria and critters like the ichneumon wasp, that paralyzes a caterpillar and lays its eggs in it so the larvae eat it alive. Nature's not nice.

No, I've never done that, I've said that IF he exists he has a lot to answer for, and argued that the existence of all those bad things precludes the existence of a deity with the characteristics ascribed to God.
Yes you have. You've raged quite verbosely about your relationship experiences and blame God that she was a bitch.

If you didn't have a soul, it wouldn't hurt.

That is why Ram Dass said, "life is a school. Take the curriculum". Even the angels are jealous of our ability to feel emotion. But too many forget that emotions are a tool that can be used to get to enlightenment. Many use their emotions as weapons to get what they (their egos) want. They will never figure it out. Their lives will be living hell instead of the heaven they seek.

He's close. Control of emotion (battle of good and evil) is 100% internal (pater) reacting to the external (mater).
