uhh... What's a land line?...

Sorry, where I reside, there are cell(ular) phones and land-line phones (traditional phones that have connections to an actual phone line (cable or otherwise). It may be more Prairie usage.

But if he has both a cell phone and a "land" line (for which he is paying), my question is "Why?"

Cord's not long enough for the drive to 7-Eleven?

Sounds like a bad line card at the central office or if you have multiple jacks in your home try disconnecting all the phones and call in using your cell, then plug in each one and see if you get disconnected or any type interference on the line, as far as toll fraud, this can generally only happens with voice mail systems, the hacker uses an outbound transfer to get access to an outside line.

Yeah, I tried that. It didn't work.

It was the phone company who thought it might be tapped. I didn't really think much of it until my friend told me of a guy who had his phones tapped while someone was trying to wire money out of his account. That's when I started getting concerned.

Others have told me that it may be a problem with the wiring. Hopefully that is all it is. I've also read that a common scam is to tap a line then use it to call long distance. My LD provider was closed today so I'll know if I have a $500 phone bill to Saudi Arabia when I call tomorrow.

FYI a landline is traditional phone service.

I hope they do, if they are listening to anything I say, they are wasting their time. Personally I hate phones and I hate talking on them. They are good to check if a store is open or to make an appointment, for visiting or needless chatter they are a pain in the butt.

Well, after being told by my phone company that the line was probably being tapped, they found out it was an equipment problem.

So much international intrigue!

Anyways, my friend's friend did get hit. Mine was nothing. Its kinda disappointing in a way.

You have an unusual phone company. Bell goes into denial and the problem is at your end for everything they can't readily explain - including the boat anchor that skinned an underwater cable sixteen miles from my phone.

If they said probably, might be, could be, sounds like ... then it was. There's paperwork with that.

Maybe he just got caught in an out-of-control system, like this guy.

A British 'resident' held at Guantanamo Bay was identified as a terrorist after confessing he had visited a 'joke' website on how to build a nuclear weapon, it was revealed last night.
Binyam Mohamed, a former UK asylum seeker, admitted to having read the 'instructions' after allegedly being beaten, hung up by his wrists for a week and having a gun held to his head in a Pakistani jail.
