``why have the people remained silent?``

This is not entirely true --- in the most recent anti war rallies, there were well over 100,000 people who showed up to protest the war. It got scant attention from the controlled reich wing media so that it gave the appearance of silence. The reality is that there are far more anti war posters and placards than pro Bush signs every where. But the right wing media won't tell you that and it gives the false appearance of national compliance with Bush's treason.

Gopher,
I didn't know the real numbers of suicides but when I was in Vietnam that was a big problem. Some were officially listed as either MIA or KIA and in my mind many of the numbers of MIA's we read about are probably in big part those who took their own lives. But also, did you know that the US DOD has a clandestine care home for US troops who are war time quad amputees who wish that no one is ware they are still alive? I saw it with my own eyes at the rear of the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA. in 1964. That facility is now deactivated and I'm sure those heroes are relocated to another facility. During my brief visit (I was an Escort) the place was clean, well maintained and the level of care appeared to be excellent. My experience with the US in war type situations is the propaganda machine is patterned after the Goebbels system in use in Nazi Germmany before and during WW II. If you ever want the truth, don't go any government agency. They forgot how to even spell that word let alone know its true meaning.

Yes, and I remember how there were many soldiers who turned to drugs to deal with war induced distress. Many died as well but these were never counted as suicides.

Vets that I knew back then used to complain that they got very poor service from the VA. Such services were not really upgraded until Clinton came into office. Strangely, however, he still is perceived as being unresponsive to vets needs because of the masterful hate propaganda promoted by right wingers.

I don't understand for the life of me why governments are allowed to get away with it.
The next of is the same as the last one so it's not some partisan issue. How do you shake up the club?

The new spin this morning from the White House is they are now going to "Downgrade" the Iranian threat. Why??? I'll bet the peace meeting at Annapolis last week may have had a lot to do with this move. It wouldn't surprise me if those usual holdouts (Syria, etc) quietly told someone that this type of rhetoric is counter-productive to any meaningful peace discussions and if it didn't change this would be the last time the US saw Syria (and others) attend this type of meeting. In short, the threat has never changed but the spin has. Convenient isn't it?

Wheather or not we've got a clue the revolution will affect us all, it already has and continues to on a dayly basis but we don't seem to see the real implication to well.
