To the good folks at Canadian Content. Here's a nice little gem for all of you...

Stephen Harper apparently has replaced all the previous pictures in the Government Lobby such as the formal portrait of the Queen and paintings of past Prime Ministers with just large colour photos of himself over every available space. The guy is totally full of himself! LOL.

...

Quote from Green Party Leader Elizabeth May making the discovery...

"It used to have some paintings on the wall. Past prime ministers, certainly a formal portrait of the Queen. Landscapes. I know there was the occasional photo of current Prime Ministers, but when I walked in this time, I felt chilled to the bone. Every available wall space had a large colour photo of Stephen Harper. Stephen Harper at Alert. Stephen Harper in fire fighter gear. Stephen Harper at his desk. Stephen Harper meeting the Dalai Lama."

"The student with me said it was the same in Langevin Block, the Prime ministers Office. Photos of Stephen Harper everywhere."

Wall o' Harper

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May discovered something while acting as a leader earlier this month for a model parliament for students: A wall of Stephen Harper photographs in the the “Government Lobby”, the lounge area reserved for government MPs that is behind the green curtains on their stide of the aisle in the House of Commons:

It did not strike me until I walked into the Government Lobby to await my turn as Speaker that I had not been in there since Stephen Harper became Prime Minister.

It used to have some paintings on the wall. Stephen Harper meeting the Dalai Lama. Even the photo of the Queen showed her in the company of Stephen Harper. None were great photos. None were more than enlarged snapshots in colour. They didn’t feel like art.

The student with me said it was the same in Langevin Block, the Prime ministers Office. Photos of Stephen Harper everywhere.

Yikes, that's kind of spooky. From the post title, I thought maybe there was a wall, like here on CC, where we could write notes to him. Oh well.

Stevie really likes himself, but evidently doesn't care much for science.

Mainstream Media Ignore the Story - The Canadian government is closing the Office of the National Science Advisor (ONSA) and sacking its principal, Dr. Arthur Carty, a move that has garnered virtually no attention from the mainstream press.Credit must go to the Discovery Channel, to the UK-based Nature News and to CBC's excellent Quirks and Quarks host Bob McDonald for reporting the story. The Harper government's hostility to science seems to match that of the Bush administration, at least. Canada has been boldly out of step internationally on climate policy. Now the Harper Conservatives have opted to shut the ONSA - perhaps thinking that, since they weren't listening to the advice anyway, they should save the money.

Yeah, well.....

I've got to say, I have nothing against Harper, I give him credit for the success of the CPC.........

I'm a member and a contributor to the party.....

BUT....it does seem at times that Harper and Co. are trying to create a kind of "cult of personality" around him...........

Over-compensation, I believe, for the negative image a lot of Canadians have of him....

Quite amusing, actually. You should be a contributor, and get the Harper calender (10 minutes of laughter)......it ain't the SI swimsuit calender THANK GOD!

Too damn many PR advisors.

I DON"T LIKE IT.........and if I don't, as a partisan Conservative.......it is just a little creepy.

Now, if we only had a reasonable alternative............

This is the one that really scares me though. Hanging in the hallway to the left of the PMO.

It would do no good to have what you call a"reasonable alternative". Today a reasonable alternative to "coke" is considered "pepsi", since you supported Harper from the beginning what you propose is actually substitution of Harper with Smith or Brown with Doe which is a shallow alternative. Harper is not the party nor the policy, he is the puppet at the front, the personality, the celebrity. So like so many of us today we cannot be relied upon to select or recognise an alternative. You also favour John McCain for president, Harper and McCain are literally from the exact same litter, advance the exact same policys and come from the exact same hierarchy. So what you really want is a slicker adherant of the same neo-conservative policys. Harper is a sick individual, left in power he will send Canadians to the long war, thousands of us will die, to support the policys of Harper and Capitalism. Nato is about to precipitate the overt comencement of WWIII backed by and encouraged by Mr Harper.

Meanwhile, back on topic:

Cabinet Ministers have complained of every announcement having to go through Harper's PR folks, civil servants have been disciplined (in one case that I can think of, actually fired) for not using the slogan "Canada's New Government" - it sure does seem to me that the Cons are mounting a huge campaign to re-brand themselves as our Natural Governing Party, a title currently attached to the Libs.

Harper would of course be the focus of this new brand.
