True, but it's definitely difficult for 30 million people to agree one platform in its entirety. The reality is that there will never be the perfect party in any political framework.

Ever.
It doesn't have to be perfect, but does it always have to be so negative? Can we not also point out what's right instead of what's wrong?

And no, of course the entirety of the population is not likely to ever be in 100% agreement on one specific party. I would never expect it to, but this tendency and trend towards focusing solely on the negative is having a big impact. That, I believe, is the main reason so few of us show up on election day.

Thats been the truth about Canadian politics since Clark and Trudeau were leaders, if not earlier (this was when I became politically aware). Unfortunately, in my opinion, many Canadians are more about style than substance, which is why Trudeau triumphed over Clark.
I can buy the cynicism always being part of the political landscape of the electorate, just by remembering how I heard adults expressing themselves when I was a child.

The extremist tendancies towards emphasizing the negative seems to be getting worse though.

You spelled Asshole wrong, and only if you're done making stuff up about other party leaders.

This is becoming a report card on Harper and he is failing even if he wins. Yes even if he wins.
Harper has to win a majority to be given a passing grade, and he won't. On the other hand the
Liberal leader has an even bigger mountain to climb, as he has be rejected outright along with
the party platform. The Greens are not even being received as a political party, they are now
considered a movement and nothing more. Movements tend to behave dictatorial, and have
done so over time. The Greens will have to develop mainstream ideas and discuss other over
all issue separate and apart from the environment. The best way to describe this is.
For example I am a young person, I am all for ending global warming, and I am a friend of the
environment, but if it is going to effect my job, and lifestyle well being that is something different.
Therefore the young people are going with the Conservatives and the New Democrats.
Harper will have a c to c- , by the time this is over.

And you claim NOT to be a shill..... lol

So who is mentalfloss shilling for? I've seen posts that were pro-Layton, pro-Ignatieff, the only common thread seems to be that mentalfloss disagrees with much of what Harper has done-and has been completely in the open about that. That doesn't make one a shill.

So, who is it mentalfloss is shilling for?

Why, Jack Lennin of course, lol.

I am biased to any party I feel will try and be as socially democratic and pacifist as as possible. I would like that party to also be fiscally responsible, but money comes second to just cause. Oh, and transparency is also one of my biggest gripes.

As society changes and we become more socially capable, the economy might take a higher priority.

Oh, and if you have a stache and a reasonably hot asian wife, that also helps.

I think the way the police have behaved lately they should have to use smurf ball night sticks
and water pistols. Seriously though this is Harper's last stand if he does not get a majority.
The glass ceiling is there for him. People don't trust him, all be it they don't totally trust Jack
either, and they just don't care about Iggy, and May is a joke.
This campaign was about attitude and I think the constant negative ads against Iggy left
unchallenged worked, but the reverse effect took hold when they kept being negative against
a smiling guy with a positive view holding a cane/ In the end the writing was on the wall for the
Tories, with the current leadership and attitude they were not going to get a majority.
Tomorrow we could be in for a real surprise, there are all kinds of people voting for Jack to make
him official opposition. If there is a real heavy turnout it will go against the conservatives, after
all they wanted a nice quiet election caused by those evil liberals. The Liberals wanted to make
the issue one of honesty, what an oxymoron there, and the people listened to Jack who said the
same things he always said except the other two were just spewing their bile at one another
Layton talked about issues and he could win in a squeaker if enough people vote.
