Sandi Renaldo used to be hot?

Wow, I am so young...

ok the dealy is Canadian networks reair American programming to allow Canadian commercials.

So its just for commercials!!!

But most of the USA Networks's current shows are not available in Canada!

So, what does Media have to do with that?

their is not news breaks on the USA Network... just commercials and promos for upcoming shows.

Its not like CBS having news updpates, this is a cable channel, no news.

So your still off-base...

Physc
Dead Zone
Raw (wrestling)
USA Network movies
etc.

We get Raw and Smackdown (shown several times weekly) on The Score and both new and old episodes of Monk are on City TV, off the top of my head. As well, South Park isn't the Comedy Network's #1 show; that is reserved for Jon Stewart, followed closely by The Colbert Report. Keep trying.

Just checking out a few of those other shows, it's easy to see why they've been relegated to a fourth-class station such as the USA network. Anthony Michael Hall? Didn't want it in 1986, don't want it now.

Really, other than a lot of CW rejects and that putrid dog show, most of it is available on other channels. Between OMNI, City, Fox and NBC (where it seems to get most of its programming from), you're pretty much covered. Pass.

Perhaps one of the larger reasons why American programming dominates the ratings is because it is shown verbatim on Canadian networks, and people often do not support Canadian programming. It sure is cheaper for the networks than producing something yourself. Sit for a second and think about what CTV and Global actually make themselves: news, a little bit of sports, maybe a show here or there - that's it. The rest is reruns of The Simpsons and 30,000 Law & Order spin-offs; try supporting Canadian programming, there's certainly some good stuff out there, and it's certainly not "a joke" to those who are not ignorant.

go here, and fill out your comments and hopefully you'll give your support to Shaw to allow us to get the straight unadalterated USA Network channel.

Not a canadian version, the pure network.

As most of you know: the more pure American channels the better.

Thanks!

I don't know that. I am of the opinion that the less American channels the better. I think we have enough American tv in this country, so this is something I would never support.

You know what you do? You go to the states, you buy yourself a grey market dish, and you got all the american tv you could possibly want.

I think a point is missed here. Do we want any government controlling what information we can and cannot see on TV. If we could get every channel though out the world we could see first hand the kind of media other countries and cultures are exposed to. It would also give us more incentive to learn more languages and more about other people.

I do agree...I think the thing is, TV isn't the only way to access this information. We have the internet nowdays, we can get any paper in the world sent to our front door, we can access shortwave radio...the world is not exactly closed off to us.

Our television is communist.

The gov. locks out all these channels because they are not suitable for us!

And FYI who actually watches "Canadian" programming?

My only Canadian shows are:

CTV National News
Corner Gas
Canadian Idol

I am a CTV guy!

you guys are so ignorant! lol.

American tv doesn't "hurt" us!!

Canadian tv likes American tv!

80% of CTV's lineup is American.. their only Canadian stuff is:

Canada AM
Local News
CTV National News
Late Local News
Corner Gas, Robson Arms, Canadian Idol, Degrassi, here and there throughout the year.

CTV, Global, City, they don't create jobs for Canadian talent!

So there is very little quality Canadian programming.

They are cheap with the CanCon programming to fit the requirements by the CRTC because they love reairing American television.

USA Network has a lot of shows not available up here.

And you peoeple wanting to keep American tv out is really silly.

BTW bear I am on Bell ExpressVu, I have never known where to go for "heaven"

PM'ing you.

Is there any major nation without a radio and television regulatory board? Alot of what the CRTC is doing relates to competition issues, frequency and band issues, etc. If it was completely unregulated, there would be battles over what channels people would want to run things on, people would be sticking up relay towers whenever, whereever, local stations would be ground to dust as advertising dollars are swept away...the CRTC isn't just sitting there going "Hmmmm, how can we piss off that guy in Western Manitoba today?". But, if you are interested in having the CRTC open up a channel for the USA network, well, Westmanguy is going about it the right way...they need to know opinions. It's an organization that actively looks for public opinion on what is being or not being broadcast in Canada. So, contact them, tell them your feelings....if you are that passionate about seeing...um...Monk....or RAW....
