Lochte is such a beach boy. A 32 year old adolescent.. complete with neon hair and penchant for heavy partying.

There is any number of ways this whole episode could have been avoided.. by not going out cruising till 5 am in a foreign city with rep for crime and on edge for threats of terrorism .. simply not knocking off that poster on the way to the washroom... not confronting the security guard when asked to pay for the damages (which led to his pulling out his gun).. simply letting things ride once they'd payed $50 and left the gas station and NOT bringing the press into it.. not lying to the press, and especially in a way that embarrassed the city, his sport, the Olympics and police of Rio.. not aggravating it by continuing to evade responsibility once he'd left Rio.

It's all on Lochte's shoulders and he'll likely face a suspension which will cost him his sponsors and millions of dollars. Ryan should just grow up and act his age.

I'm afraid that Lochte isn't getting a free pass. We are watching a multi-million dollar franchise crashing to the ground, like the Hindenberg and no one will want to touch him with a barge pole by the end of this August.

I'm waiting for Trump to give him some sort of endorsement.

Once you display your "true colours" it's pretty much an up hill battle, which is pretty well impossible to overcome. But he brought all on himself.

I'm sure thst he thinks of himself as a victim. That usually goes hand-in-hand with the sense of entitlement.

Lochte charged with false report of robbery at Rio 2016
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazilian police charged American swimmer Ryan Lochte on Thursday with filing a false robbery report over an incident during the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
A police statement said Lochte would be informed in the United States so he could decide whether to introduce a defence in Brazil.
The indictment will also be sent to the International Olympic Committee’s ethics commission, the statement said.
Lochte initially said that he and fellow swimmers Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint in a taxi by men with a police badge as they returned to the Olympic Village from a party Aug. 15. However, security video suggested the four actually faced security guards after vandalizing a gas station restroom.
Lochte left Brazil shortly after the incident. Three days later, local authorities took Conger and Bentz off an airliner heading to the United States so they could be questioned about the robbery claim. They were later allowed to leave Brazil, as was Feigen, after he gave testimony. Feigen, who initially stood by Lochte’s testimony, was not charged.
Lochte has since acknowledged that he was highly intoxicated and that his behaviour led to the confrontation. It is not clear from the video whether a gun was ever pointed to the athletes.
Under Brazilian law, the penalty for falsely filing a crime report carries a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison. Lochte could be tried in absentia if he didn’t return to face the charge.
The United States and Brazil have an extradition treaty dating back to the 1960s, but Brazil has a long history of not extraditing its own citizens to other nations and U.S. authorities could take the same stance if Lochte is found guilty.
That is currently the case of the head of Brazil’s football confederation, Marco Polo del Nero, who faces charges in the wide-ranging scandal entangling international soccer’s ruling body, FIFA. He has not travelled outside Brazil for more than a year to avoid being arrested by U.S. authorities somewhere else.
The charges in Brazil raise questions about the future for Lochte, who is planning to take time off from swimming but wants to return to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He has 12 Olympic medals, second only to Michael Phelps among U.S. male Olympians.
Lochte lost four major sponsors early this week over the controversy, including Speedo USA and Ralph Lauren. But on Thursday he picked up a new sponsor — Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops. Pine Bros. said people should be more understanding of the swimmer and said he will appear in ads that say the company’s product is “Forgiving On Your Throat.”

Disgraced swimmer Ryan Lochte to join 'Dancing With The Stars'?

Disgraced Olympian Ryan Lochte is reportedly planning to try and redeem himself following his Rio robbery controversy by appearing in the next season of Dancing With The Stars.

The U.S. athlete had entered talks with producers of the ballroom dancing show before flying out to Rio de Janiero, Brazil to compete in the Summer Olympics, where he won gold in the men's 4x100m swimming freestyle relay alongside teammate Michael Phelps.

However, his latest Olympic achievement was overshadowed after he claimed he and his fellow Team USA swimmers Jack Conger, Jimmy Feigen and Gunnar Bentz had been robbed at gunpoint by a group of men dressed as police officers during a night out in Rio.

Lochte was subsequently forced to admit he had been highly-intoxicated during the incident at a gas station and "over-exaggerated" parts of the story, after surveillance footage actually showed the swimmers vandalising the public bathroom and being confronted by security guards, demanding payment for the damage.

He has since been dropped by one of his biggest sponsors, swimwear brand Speedo, but he is now hoping to dance his way to redemption by competing on Dancing with the Stars, USA Today reports.

The celebrities taking part in the show's upcoming season 23 will be officially unveiled on Good Morning America on Tuesday.

Ryan Lochte receives 10-month suspension for drunken Rio antics
Eddie Pells, The Associated Press
First posted: Thursday, September 08, 2016 11:24 AM EDT | Updated: Thursday, September 08, 2016 01:17 PM EDT
Ryan Lochte is banned from swimming through next June and will forfeit $100,000 in bonus money that went with his gold medal at the Olympics, part of the penalty for his drunken encounter at a gas station in Brazil during last month’s games.
The U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Swimming announced the penalties Thursday. Lochte agreed to a ban that will also render him ineligible for world championships next July because he won’t be able to qualify for them at nationals the previous month.
He’ll get no monthly funding from either organization, can’t access USOC training centres, must perform 20 hours of community service and will miss Team USA’s post-Olympics trip to the White House.
Agreeing to four-month suspensions were Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen, who were with Lochte at the gas station. Those sanctions, which end Dec. 31, also strip funding and training access and preclude them from the White House visit.
Bentz, 20, will also serve 10 hours of community service for violating a curfew rule for athletes under 21.
“As we have said previously, the behaviour of these athletes was not acceptable. It unfairly maligned our hosts and diverted attention away from the historic achievements of Team USA,” USOC CEO Scott Blackmun said. “Each of the athletes has accepted responsibility for his actions and accepted the appropriate sanctions.”
The USOC gives a $25,000 bonus to Olympic gold-medal winners, and USA Swimming has awarded a $75,000 gold-medal bonus at past Olympics.
But that money pales in comparison to what Lochte lost last month when key sponsors , including Speedo USA and Ralph Lauren, abandoned the 32-year-old in the wake of his actions at the gas station, then his rapidly changing accounts of what really happened. Estimates have put the financial hit for those losses at around $1 million.
While the near-10-month suspension is four months longer than the one Michael Phelps received in 2014 for his second DUI, the ouster from next year’s world championships isn’t considered major, in part because those championships typically attract a lesser field in the year after the Olympics.
Swimming’s international federation, FINA, called the sanctions “proportionate, adequate and sufficient,” and said it had no plans to augment them.
Despite his embarrassment, Lochte has maintained a high profile, posting regularly on social media and accepting a spot on the upcoming season of “Dancing With The Stars.”
Last month, Brazilian police charged Lochte with filing a false robbery report, but Lochte has not said whether he’ll return to Brazil to defend himself.
Lochte’s gold in the 4x200 freestyle relay was one of 121 overall medals the United States won at the Olympics, yet his actions at the gas station overshadowed a large portion of the second half of the Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee’s ethics commission is also looking into the incident.
“When Code of Conduct infractions occur, it’s our responsibility to take action that reflects the seriousness of what happened,” USA Swimming executive director Chuck Wielgus said. “Unfortunately, this story line took attention away from the athletes who deserved it the most.”

IOC decides against further punishment for Ryan Lochte
The Associated Press

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND - Ryan Lochte will not receive separate punishment from the International Olympic Committee for lying about being robbed at gunpoint during the Rio de Janeiro Games.
The IOC says it is “adequate” that United States team officials have already banned the swimmer for 10 months and required him to forfeit $100,000 in bonuses. Lochte will miss the 2017 world championships.
The Olympic body says its disciplinary panel decided “no additional penalty was needed on its part.”
The IOC panel also accepted the four-month bans imposed on Lochte’s teammates Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen. All four will miss a Team USA visit to the White House.
Lochte and his teammates were involved in an early-morning drunken encounter at a Rio gas station before claiming they were threatened and robbed.

LOS ANGELES — Ryan Lochte says he feels “a little hurt” after being involved in an altercation on “Dancing with the Stars” that prompted producers to cut to commercials.
The beleaguered swimmer was reportedly rushed by an unknown pair of men wearing anti-Lochte T-shirts while receiving his scores from judge Carrie Ann Inaba on Monday’s live installment of the celebrity ballroom dance competition.
“Hey, back off,” Inaba said as the altercation was occurring off screen.
When the show returned, “Dancing with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron explained they were interrupted by “a little incident” and thanked the ABC series’ security team “for staying in shape.”
The swimmer told Bergeron that “so many feelings are going through my head right now.” Lochte added that he was “a little hurt, but I came out here. I wanted to do something I’m completely not comfortable with, and I did.”
ABC did not immediately return messages seeking comment about the incident.

Ryan Lochte protesters defend TV show ambush after arrest
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES — The protesters who ambushed Ryan Lochte on “Dancing with the Stars” are defending their actions after being released from jail.
Sam Satoodeh and Barzeen Soroudi were arrested on suspicion of misdemeanour trespassing and each held on $1,000 bail after the pair rushed the stage Monday to protest the Olympic swimmer on the ABC ballroom dancing competition.
“Our purpose is to get the message out that Lochte is a coward, a liar and under Brazilian law, a criminal,” Satoodeh told ABC News outside of jail Tuesday.
Soroudi added that he believed Lochte “embarrassed Americans on the world’s stage, and this was our form of protesting against that.”
Lochte and his swimming teammates have faced criticism since they were involved in an early-morning drunken encounter during the Olympics last month at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They later claimed they were threatened and robbed.
Satoodeh and Soroudi rushed the stage in anti-Lochte T-shirts while the swimmer was receiving scores from judge Carrie Ann Inaba for his debut performance during a live installment of the celebrity ballroom dance competition.
“Hey, back off,” Inaba said as the altercation was occurring off screen.
ABC’s “Good Morning America” aired video that wasn’t shown during the live broadcast of Satoodeh being tackled on stage by security and other protesters in the audience chanting “liar” as they were escorted out of the soundstage.
During the episode, the Olympic medallist performed a foxtrot routine with professional partner Cheryl Burke to “Call Me Irresponsible.” They received a combined score from the judges of 24 out of 40.
“When I was asked to do the show, the one thing that I kept hearing was that it was like joining a big family,” Lochte wrote in a statement posted Wednesday on Instagram. “After Monday’s incident, I now know what that means. I have gotten so much love from everyone on the show, including my partner Cheryl, my fellow competitors, the producers, the security team and its fans.”
