Why is it that you think citizenship for military service is something new. Any person from any country has been allowed to join the U.S. Military, even signing up in their native country. The only stipulation was they had to go thru a background check first. If your goal in life is bashing the United States go ahead. Just think, what have you sacrificed for your country in your life.

what have you sacrificed for your country in your life

ummm. I haven't committed mass murder in the name of god and country.

on June 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Britain, Canada was brought to the front line of what had become a world war.
The troops were Canadian. "The Empire" used who was handiest. Reality is much much broader than you think.

FAILED

They were not Canadian. The troops that burnt Washington were troops who had recently fought in the Penninsular War in Europe. They were dispatched from Bermuda to the Chesapeake. They did not stop off in Canada to pick up unneeded Canadians. They burnt Washington and were turned back when they tried to do the same to Baltimore. Of course that web site failed to add that the same British troops that burnt Washington were sent back to their ships in Baltimore.

Sorry to confuse you with facts.

First, there were no Canadian or Canadien troops in the attack on the City of Washington. Canadians in Upper Canada were mostly second and third generation exiles from the American War of Independance who had chosen to remain loyal to Britain. They had a hard life and were just interested in protecting what they had built themselves. The Canadiens were the original French Catholic settlers of Lower Canada who viewed the War of 1812 as a war between English Protestants and English Protestants. They didn't care who won as long as the victors would leave them alone. The war of 1812 started badly for the Americans as their attempts to invade Canada were repeatedly repulsed by General Isaac Brock commanding a small British force.
