The United States is on a fiscal path towards insolvency and policymakers are at a "tipping point," a Federal Reserve official said on Tuesday.

"If we continue down on the path on which the fiscal authorities put us, we will become insolvent, the question is when," Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher said in a question and answer session after delivering a speech at the University of Frankfurt. "The short-term negotiations are very important, I look at this as a tipping point."

But he added he was confident in the Americans' ability to take the right decisions and said the country would avoid insolvency.

"I think we are at the beginning of the process and it's going to be very painful," he added.
Fisher earlier said the US economic recovery is gathering momentum, adding that he personally was extremely vigilant on inflation pressures.

"We are all mindful of this phenomenon. Speaking personally, I am concerned and I am going to be extremely vigilant on that front," Fisher said in an interview with CNBC.

Fisher added that the U.S. Federal Reserve had ways to tighten its monetary policy other than interest rates, including by selling Treasurys, changing reserves levels and using time deposits.

He added that he does not support the Fed embarking on an additional round of quantitative easing.
"Barring some extraordinary circumstance I cannot forsee...I would vote against a QE3," Fisher told CNBC. "I don't think it's necessary. Again, we have a self-sustaining recovery."

Their dollar keeps losing value because they are broke. Same as your credit rating when all your credit cards are maxxed out and you are still spending like a drunken sailor on shore leave. No business can survive with deficit spending for long as the auto industry has shown us and governments are no different. The real problem is that politicians are more interested in stroking their egos and getting re elected than doing what is right.

Yup. Cut to the BONE. THE BONE. All unneccessary programs and freebies. Get rid of them. Stop all Pork programs.

Then if they must raise taxes... so be it.

But they should not raise taxes to keep the gravy train rolling. No more free money.

Where do you start axing?

Oh boy! Don't give me the axe Petros. There is so much we can cut. Entitlements, pork, foolish government programs and foolish studies. 10 Million Dollar Studies to study Government Studies... garbage like that.

NPR, GW Research, I could go on and on. West Virginia get MILLIONS to produce Helium for blimps in the case of war. That started after WWI. They still get the subsidy. Acres and Acres of helium canisters. Farmers getting paid to have their cattle graze on government land. Foolishness like that.

Why not give you the axe? If your government hasn't been doing the job then it's the responsibility of the people to take control of govt and control of the money supply.

The helium is for the stealth blimps. ;)

Right now cutting anything like community pastures or food subsidies would completely devistate the economy not to mention the land they are using.

Those subsidies are America's dirty little secret. Without those subsidies food will rise back to 1950's levels of being 60% of net income for the average American.

Those subsidies are what created the consumer market.

Unfortunately is does not work that way. However there is hope that they are coming around. We shall see.

Everyone is afraid to fight back. Apparently the LSD and dope that gave them balls 40 years ago has done them in for good mentally and the damage has been passed on to their kids.

PS I added more to the previous post about subsidies.

Cut from unnecessary military expenditures. That seems to be where the most Grade D meat comes from.

Like a bandaid. RIGHT OFF!

Or legalize pot and prostitution.

Nah, that is silly. What is the world to do without our "Unique Capabilities". lol

Legalize pot and hookers. Oh brother. The liberal solution to the worlds problems. More mind numbing drugs and paying women for sex.

Get the insanity of our obscenely coveted primal urges out of the way now. People will eventually become numb to it and start thinking very clearly when the novelty is gone.

How much unused potato chip and Pepsi energy is stored on couches America wide? That should be put to full use immediately.

Of course the only possibility of salvage of America is not mentioned. The single biggest recipient of pork are the private banking and financial institutions. Either the planet rids themselves of these parasitic criminals or only the criminals will survive.

With regards to the bailouts, you're right. Disgusting. Nauseating.
