When was Canada ever not multicultural? We even needed residential schools, the Chinese Exclusion Act, abrogating the freedom of German and Ukrainian Canadians to send their children to school in their languages, the Official Languages Act, and plenty of other such laws since even prior to Confederation right up until today with the sole aim of crushing diversity.

Racism has been incorporated and licenced now as a political brand. It's no longer about bigotry, its about 'systemic' history and structure, that demands affirmative compensation. It is inalienable from White Christian Civilization.. every other form of racial profiling is simply a justifiable response to the implicit genocide of white man's guilt.

Yep, food and music, that's what makes a country strong. You think stuff like this is new? Long before the days of mass immigration many places still had some kind of celebration along those lines. For me it was "Carousel of Nations". Ain't no different than what took place in Edmonton except Carousel took place over a sizable area of the city and lasted for a week.
What people like you don't get is that this country has always had immigration from the majority of countries we get it from now. The difference is we wen't herding them in en masse and lying to them to get them here. There was a rhyme and reason to the previous immigration system and it had dick all to do with being from a European country.
If you were qualified to work in Canada, you were qualified to work in Canada, period. Now, those with professions or skills are being told they're qualified to work in Canada but when they arrive, they're told they're not certified to work in Canada.
What we basically have now is mass economic immigration to a welfare state. Combine our annual intake with the refugees we take in annually (on average) and we are over the 1% threshold. That means we are taking in over 1% of our total population every year now. That is a horrible number. It means for Canada anyway, certain cities being unable to repair or replace much needed infrastructure because they are constantly trying to keep up with providing new infrastructure for the artificially increasing population.
I'll bet dollars to donuts that the vast majority of Canadians have no problem with immigration, regardless of where they come from. What it seems many have an issue with, including many who arrived here through the proper channels, is illegal immigration. While others legitimately question how the govt can afford to spend hundreds of millions, if not billions, outside of the country, spend a few billion more on rushing in refugees but can never seem to find the money or resources for Canadians in genuine need.
Multiculturalism does work and can be a good thing, but it has to happen organically. If you force it or mandate it with full, forced acceptance of every cultural practice, there's going to be blow-back at some point.
