A coalition of unions is using Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown own campaign commercial in a new attack ad against him.

Working Families — funded by public- and private-sector unions — released its latest TV spot Thursday, entitled “Can You Believe Patrick Brown?”

The 30-second commercial hacks Brown’s slick ad from earlier this year that was designed to showcase the Tories’ moderate direction.

“It doesn’t matter who you are; it doesn’t matter where you’re from; it doesn’t matter who you love,” says Brown, as a Working Families graphic splashes across the screen reminding viewers that “Patrick Brown Opposed Marriage Equality” as a Conservative MP in Ottawa
.
“It doesn’t matter if you belong to a union,” he says, as the words “Patrick Brown Voted To Restrict Unions” are superimposed over his photograph

“It doesn’t matter how much you make,” Brown intones, as “Patrick Brown Wants Minimum-Wage Hike Delayed” appears on screen, a reference to his concerns over the $11.60 hourly wage jumping to $14 in January and $15 in 2019.

An onslaught of union-funded attack ads aimed at Patrick Brown appears to be hurting the Progressive Conservatives with female voters, a new poll suggests.

The blitz of negative commercials from public- and private-sector unions seems to have tightened an already close race in the June 7, 2018 election.

The Campaign Research survey shows Brown’s PCs at 35 per cent, Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals at 32 per cent, Andrea Horwath’s New Democrats at 23 per cent, and the Greens led by Mike Schreiner at 9 per cent.

Polls again?
jeez...
WE still haven't got rid of the "hillary will win" people yet.

If I compare Brown's staff whom I have met, and have had help dealing with government idiocy from, and other MPP's staff from the past, there is no comparison.

I think the unions think that if they attack the PCs Ontarionians will somehow vote for the NDP. Bob Rae ensured that won't happen for a lifetime.

I have often wondered why 3rd party ads are allowed in an election campaign (although it is still prior to the official rules). Seems like a way for some parties to get extra ads on without paying for them or having then count.

The hypocrisy is stunning, but no surprise.

His staffers may be good, but do they believe in the ads, or how he votes? That's my question.

I haven't seen much evidence of his staff being capable. I offer Facebook as an example.

If you go to Brown's FB page, he is always criticizing Wynne, but rarely offers alternatives. PC strategy seems to be to contradict whatever Wynne says or does, but not propose solutions. It could be that the PCs are waiting until closer to the election before responding with their own policy proposals, but when you listen to him, he doesn't say anything that we don't already know.

Electricity prices are high. Yes.
Hospital waits are long. Yes.
Jobs are leaving Ontario. Yes.
etc.

What are you going to do about it?

This whole thing stinks': PCs slam Liberal plan to deliver home care
Liberals are too close to the union that could potentially benefit from the plan, PC critics allege

Brown slams it, but no alternatives are proposed. Why not? It's easy to criticize. What would the PCs do? I am by no means a Liberal, but I don't see any substance to Patrick Brown. He just contradicts. This is most of the reason that he is not doing so well in the polls, IMO. He often points out the obvious.

So Patrick, how would you fix it?

Pretty much.

It's hard for me to believe that Brown and the party are that politically naive. The PCs have to be waiting for the right time to release their plan. The PC team likely does not want to tip its hand and have the Liberals use their ideas.

Or not.

We'll have to wait until next summer to find out.
