"As Mr. Obama has shown, the question is not whether whites are willing to vote for a black candidate, but whether black candidates can put together winning coalitions (no matter their racial makeup) and around what policies. I suspect black South Carolinians will not be drawn to Mr. Scott.
The trope of the black conservative has retained a man-bites-dog newsworthiness that is long past its shelf life. Clichés about fallen barriers are increasingly meaningless; symbols don’t make for coherent policies. Republicans will not gain significant black support unless they take policy positions that advance black interests. No number of Tim Scotts — or other cynical tokens — will change that. "

Agreed.

Can the supercilious claptrap about race and find people (of any color) that are people of substance.

Good ol Faux News. Thought they had gone away.

- Nuggler ... What an extraordinarily ignorant thing to say! In actual fact, Fox News has once again in 2012 and for the 11tgh consecutive year blonw away the cable news competition that is the real faux news presented by the left leaning liberal news channels that are so obviously in the tank for and reaqdy to lie and obfuscate and distort and demonize for Obama and the Democrats that no serious person takes their unbalanced and bogus bunk disguised as news seriously.

- Just so you won't come across quite as ignorantly next time with the people here who are informed, here is the data clearly showing Fox News remarkable domination of cable news again in 2012. If you happen to be susceptible to facts, stats and reason - unlike so many of the left retards here - this might even cause you to think again as to which news newworks are really consistently pitching faux news consistent with an ideoloogical agenda.

The problem for the Republicans is that its not whether someone is black or white its what
they stand for. The vast majority of black voters and many other groups from Hispanics to
Middle Class white voters is policy
Rant all you want on the right, people want the social safety net programs, retired folks want
their entitlements pensions medicare and other programs.
You can have every constituency targeted for interest, unless you reach out with good
social programs and agree taxing the rich is on the agenda, you won't get elected at the
Federal level that was just demonstrated.
People look at the map, rural America is conservative, that is a given, the social agenda
religious crowd is conservative that too is a given. Look at the heavily populated areas now.
Minorities, heavily centered senior citizen areas, well educated middle class white areas
all of these voted for Obama, and the Democrats. They don't want the conservative doctrine
when it comes to the issues of the day.
The voters want something different than what the Republicans are offering and still they can't
see their position is a minority one. Like this holding out on the fiscal cliff issue. People will
blame the Republicans and why. The Democrats are able to define the Republicans better
than the Republicans can. It is not about who you are, its about who the people think you are
and if that is the case Republicans can name all the minorities they want to office, it won't make
any difference because people want programs not what the conservatives are offering.

Logical fallacy similar to argumentum ad popularum. (I'm not going to look up the specific argument, but it's basically a non sequitur that says just because something is popular, it does not mean it's very good.)

The problem for the Republicans is that its not whether someone is black or white its what
they stand for. The vast majority of black voters and many other groups from Hispanics to
Middle Class white voters is policy
Rant all you want on the right, people want the social safety net programs, retired folks want

Also, if society did not have social ills, the neo-conservatism and conservatism ideas could work quite well. Unfortunately, most cons can't think past their partisanship to realize that societies' ills can't be dissected from the rest and stuck on a shelf somewhere to be ignored.
