A new report compiled by market research company ReportLinker found that household consumption of beef and veal in the United Kingdom have dropped by half—equalling nearly 4.7 ounces less per person per week—since 1975.

On the flip side, household expenditures for soy and other plant-based protein foods have increased immensely; key findings from the report revealed that consumer food spending is shifting towards a more plant-based diet. The UK sales of vegetables is forecasted to reach over 1.5 million pounds by 2020, while sugar consumption per household declined by 13.5 ounces between the 1970s and 2016.

The rise of veganism in the UK is evidenced by recent trends found in its supermarkets; both Asda and Tesco have launched new vegan holiday products this year

Shows how poor their economy is when they have to eat animal food instead of waiting for the animal to process it into real food.

Animal protein should probably be eaten only on special occasions. Plant protein are far superior food sources.

So when will the animal husbandry businesses start to clamour for subsidies to dump their excess produce?

So when will the animal husbandry businesses start to clamour for subsidies to dump their excess produce?

That's nonsense. These businesses will simply cease to exist. They are owned by a shrinking population of privileged white Brits.

Just to play it safe, the Government should cut subsidies to farmers right away before the dying husbandry businesses start pointing to the farms as an excuse to subsidize husbandry more.

Subsidies are for losers. If you want to open and run a business, don't ask the government for help. If you cannot make it, you'll fold. It's basic business practice.

And a lot fewer calories too.
