Labour have won but results are still coming in.

Green co-leader Ramsay gains Waveney Valley from the Conservatives.

Tories wiped out in Wales

Professor Sir John Curtice
BBC polling expert

With all the seats declared in Wales, the Tories have lost every single one they were defending, taking them back to the zero seats to which they fell in 1997.

I made a mistake before.

This is only the ninth time that Labour have won an election.

The previous eight were:

1945
1950
1964
1966
1974
1997
2001
2005

Bizarre.

Despite winning with a huge majority, just look at Labour's vote percentage...

Labour set to win with 35% share of the vote

Professor Sir John Curtice

BBC polling expert

With more than 580 seats now declared, the BBC is forecasting that the final vote share across Great Britain will be:

Labour - 35% (+2)

Conservatives - 24% (-21)

Liberal Democrats - 12% (0)

Reform - 15% (+13)

Green - 7% (+4)

This will be by far the worst Conservative performance ever in terms of vote share.

Labour's vote is slightly below that secured by Tony Blair in 2005 and will be the lowest share of the vote won by any single party majority government.

Blackie, sounds like France is having some kind’a election now also. Being closer physically to that than the rest of us, can you offer some insight on their riots, etc…?
Marine Le Pen’s National Rally is set to fall well short of an absolute majority in the French legislative election on Sunday (Monday AEST), according to projections from two polling companies.
France has been shaken by the prospect of the “far-right” taking control of the government after spending more than 50 years keeping it at bay. It’s forced several other parties that had been at each other’s throats to swallow their animosity and come up with a largely unified electoral front in order to see off the threat, etc…

Sunak has met the King at Buckingham Palace to tend his resignation. He is no longer PM.

Starmer will be on his way soon to meet the King to become Prime Minister.

Same as it is here: Millions fed up of a centrist government treating its people with contempt and not listening to their concerns. Le Pen's party got closer to getting into power than Farage's party but Farage's party is only four years old. Le Pen and Farage should work together.

I don't know what's taking Starmer so long to meet the King but he best hurry as Britain currently has no PM. Nobody is at the rudder.

Thunder can be heard over 10 Downing Street.

Here is the score with just two seats of the 650 left to declare.

Labour: 412 (+211)
Conservatives: 121 (-250)
Liberal Democrats: 71 (+63)
SNP: 9 (-38)
Sinn Fein: 7 (no change)
Independent: 6 (+6)
DUP: 5 (-3)
Reform UK: 4 (+4)
Green: 4 (+3)
Plaid Cymru: 4 (+2)
SDLP: 2 (no change)
Alliance Party: 1 (no change)
UUP: 1 (+1)
TUV: 1 (+1)

People continue to gather outside Downing Street under Union Jack umbrellas on a rainy July morning - almost midday - as they wait for Starmer to arrive after he meets the King to be appointed the me PM.

Starmer will be only the seventh Labour Prime Minister.

Finally, Starmer and his wife Victoria arrive at Buckingham Palace to meet the King. When he comes out he will be PM.

Who is Keir Starmer, Britain's new Prime Minister?

Labour's 7th PM shares his Christian name with the founder of the party and was Head of the Crown Prosecution Service in his previous job.

He's a pescatarian and his wife and children are Jewish.

Although Labour only got 33.8% of the votes despite winning around two thirds of the seats.

As the polling expert who gives us his expert analysis every election, Sir John Curtice said - "Labour haven't won this election. The Conservatives lost it."

Interesting that Reform got more votes than the Lib Dems but the Lib Dems have 71 seats in the new parliament and Reform have just 4.

A photo of Starmer meeting the King is being shown on TV. He is now the Prime Minister. He's only the seventh Labour PM - there had been seven Tory MPs since 1990.

A smiling Starmer emerges from Buckingham Palace as Prime Minister. He gets into a car and makes his way to Downing Street where the 58th Prime Minister will address the nation.

It is only the fourth handover of power from one party to another since 1979 and Starmer is only the second elected Labour Prime Minister since 1979 after Blair (Blair's successor Brown didn't win an election).

A Labour Government is something that will be quite alien to younger Britons.

It shows just how much the once mighty Conservative Party had dominated for 200 years.

Starmer gets out of the vehicle on Downing Street and is greeted by hundreds of jubilant supporters. The new Prime Minister accompanied by his wife Victoria hugs and shakes hands with them.

The new Prime Minister makes his speech to the nation and then enters No10 for the first time with his wife Victoria, looking beautiful in a bright red dress.

Whatever anyone may think of him, at least Starmer has been democratically elected by the people unlike Sunak.

Starmer will now set about the task of building his Cabinet after just the fourth change of governing party in 45 years.

Just minutes after entering No10, Starmer is to be asked key security decisions such as "What will you do in the event of a nuclear attack?" He's already having to make key decisions for the country.
