U.S. woman facing foreclosure kills herself

TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — Police in Massachusetts say a woman has killed herself after faxing a letter telling her mortgage company she would be dead by the time they foreclosed on her house.

Police say Carlene Balderrama also left a note telling her husband and son they should take any life insurance money from her death and use it to pay for the house.

The mortgage company notified authorities, who found the 53-year-old woman’s body Tuesday.

Investigators in the city south of Boston say Balderrama used her husband’s rifle to kill herself about 90 minutes before her home was to be sold at auction.

What an idiot! You don't get any insurance in a suicide case.... especially if you written down to multiple people you're going to kill yourself...... Moron!

Not necessarily so........often insurance policies have a limited time no suicide clause....like two years. Depends on the policy, and how long she held it.

Colpy is right.

You can kill yourself after two years and your beneficiary can collect the money. They have to assume the person was sane when the policy was taken out.......Otherwise they wouldn't have sold the policy. disease or mental health can deteriorate to the point where a person would commit suicide and the beneficiary is still protected.

But either way, that sounds pretty stupid that she's allowed to do that on an insurance policy.... esspecially when she admits to killing herself to directly get that money for her family.

She basically Jihaded the whole system and killed herself to put her family in a better position in life. What's stopping this from being a trend?

People get so caught up in their posessions........her family undoubtedly would have rather kept her than 10 times the cash they are going to get.

The foreclosure thing here is a symptom of disease if you ask me. Greed has taken over people's common sense. Don't get me wrong, I realize some people lose their homes because of unforseen circumstances like illnesses and job loss. However, most of the people being forclosed on here are losing places they could never afford in the first place. They got them with shady loan deals. They never stopped to think that if they couldn't afford a traditional loan, they couldn't afford the house. Losing those homes must hurt, but if you're willing to kill yourself over stuff then your values are seriously out of wack.
