With your example, more factories in the USA by Japanese automakers was the result. For those employed in those factories, it is a good thing. Generally I consider employment good.

Trump, like Trudeau, is also debt-financing his economy in a very big way. It's hard for an economy to be doing poorly when the Government is pouring massive amounts of borrowed money into it. The real questions are:

1. Is it sustainable, and

2. Would the US have been better off without protectionism?

As for 1, the answer should be obvious. Just try borrowing forever and see what happens.

As for 2, how do we explain the balance of trade doing the opposite of what Trump intended?

It seems to be the way that it's done now and every government that I can remember in the Western World has operated that way in my lifetime. One observable effect is that it steadily undermines the values of our currencies. The $10 per day that someone in the middle class brought home in the 1940's is now $25 an hour as the current equivalent. Currency values are steadily debased and the difference is made up at the other end by printing more money. I suppose that as long as we just owe it to ourselves, the little game works. When we go overseas for investors to underwrite our debt, though, we get into trouble. I do not want the Chinese to own us. We are inviting them to colonize us. No thank you.

Says the loser. Now, That's a skill you can bank on...apparently.
;)

Long as the bailouts continue the stock market can still be a place to make money. Only socialists hate that. You know, the glowballist ones...Though, I wouldn't be betting on any companies involved with the Bidans though.

LOL, "glowball socialists". Globsocs.
:)
Yeah, You know what those are.

LOL UNtrudy's inspiration.

Notice, they're not setting up production in Indiana or Minnesota. They're doing it in Texas where there is plentiful cheap, migrant labour.

Maybe, Apple can cut a deal with the Border Patrol and use some of the captives being held in their internment camps ... real cheap ...

You know, like Von Braun using concentration camp inmates to make V2 rockets ...

Used to be Canadian soybeans. Our so-called "ally" is first putting us into a precarious trade situation with China, then undercutting us. The art of the deal ... screw your neighbour.

Seriously? And whose fault is that? Trudeau doesn't give a damn about Canadians - he's too selfish; at least Trump does!

The Americans, who Demanded that we take a Chinese official into custody ...who is still here in custody. The Americans didn't really want her after all by the looks of it. Wouldn't it be ironic if we find out that it was all a ploy to lever away some of our trade with China?

I wouldn't put it past the Americans. They forgot long ago what the "honest path" even looks like.

Trudeau is merely a puppet, not up to being a puppet master like you think that he is.

Trump has had to bailout American farms to the tune of $28 billion

That is more than twice the auto industry bailout in 2009

Art of the deal
