That's why Americans will never have universal health care coverage, as well.
And that's why they have over half the medical and pharmaceutical patents in the world. Most life-saving treatments are developed in the US.

....but if you're not affluent, you die at the same age as someone in sub-Saharsn Africa.

How backwards can you get?

All bullshit. I have a brother who is a GP in the US and he, by law, cannot turn anyone away who asks for medical assistance. Life expectancy in the US is on par with Canada.

Within a couple of years anyway, but it has more to do with personal choices than the medical system! :)

5 year cancer survival rates in the US are far better than in Canada yet the progs still want the US to wreck their healthcare system so everyone can wait for months for surgery.

But you posted the US life expectancy was akin to sub-Saharan Africa. You sound like Analfloss pulling "fact" out of yer ass.

The man is an idiot, Walter. Life expectancy has very, very little to do with the medical program. Often by the time they get involved it's too late. The individual has to look after his/her own health. Sure - the medics can patch you up temporarily and if you do exactly as they advise you might be good for a few years. Diet, exercise and life style play a far bigger role than medical procedures.

Northern Ontario,
you are seriously misinformed.
I'm afraid it is you who is misinformed!
In 2012 I filled out a life expectancy Questionnaire in the doctor's waiting room, while waiting for a refill on my prescriptions

Similar to this one on the net...
https://www.bankrate.com/calculators/retirement/life-age-expectancy-calculator.aspx
I was overweight with sore knees and my life expectancy was 82 yrs

I decided to loose weight...went from 220lbs on a 6'2" frame to 155lbs
6 Months later when I went for a physical I filled out the same questionnaire
My life expectancy had jumped up to 97....(If I didn't get hit by a car or shot by a jealous husband

The results of blood tests I had taken the day before showed a sharp lowering of cholesterol and My blood pressure was even on the low side with the pills I I had been taking for the last fifteen year.
So much that the doctor decided to remove one blood pressure pill and one cholesterol pill from my regular prescription.

So JLM is right and you are wrong......Lifestyle has a lot more to do with longevity than medicine

But doctors are still needed to diagnose and treat illness........

Modern medicine plays very little role in life expectancy.

It seems unlikely.

Actually I'm not. The biggest factor is likely genes, followed by lifestyle, exercise, diet and avoiding certain risks. When all that has failed medicine can do repairs with limitations such as the damage is already done. You should start listening to people like Sleepy, that could double your I.Q.
