If they no longer need to have a Security Clearance, then they should not have them anymore.
In the military you are given a security clearance only if you need to have one or are working around confidential material. If you are transferred to a unit that is not handling confidential material the security clearance is removed. It is not removed for anything that person did, it is just that he or she does not need one. If they are transferred back to a unit that has confidential material it, the clearance is given back.
If these people are now simply news analyst and political commentators for a network (or retirees) there is no need for them to have any clearance or access to confidential material.

I agree. It is a pride thing. High level government officials exempting themselves from these common sense rules because they don't want their pride hurt.

Why do any of them still have a Secret Clearance? That's so stupid. I cannot even believe that former government officials retain their security clearance.

Security Clearances are given to people who need to have them.
If there is no longer a need for the security clearance, the clearance is removed.
If one has a security clearance, that person can only view material on a need to know basis. That person does not have access to all confidential material just because they have that level of Security. There has to be a reason to view.
But this "Lifelong" Security Clearance for high level figures... typical Washington DC Swamp Rules.

Only someone who is part of the swamp would hint anything is getting cleaned up when facts show it is deeper and stinkier than ever. The DC swamp is part of a much bigger swamp and it is getting cleaned up just as fast. Just6 so you know who you actually support, what a few kids lives worth compared to you being able to line your pockets Walter ?? The swamp will be the last place to get cleaned up, after all, Trump is the opposite of who Putin is.

Being able to keep security clearances when you no longer have a need for it is surprising to me. Whining about losing the clearance is even more surprising. When military personnel are assigned to units that require a security clearance, they receive one after the background check is completed. When they are no longer in that unit the clearance is taken away. It is SOP.
However I suppose in The Swamp they feel that they need to keep their security clearance as if it is a right.
Perhaps it makes them feel... inadequate.
