Them Nazi Commie Fascist tyrannical mandates on driving on the right side of the road and stopping at red lights and getting safety inspections!
It's NaziCommieFascist TYRANNY, I tells ya! It's MY truck an' I'll do what I want with it!
At the time, I was one of the many truck owners pushing for inspections. Besides the obvious safety reasons ,it levels the playing field somewhat. However, like everything bureaucraps get their hands on it has become somewhat theatre of the absurd.
I can only speak to BC rules, because I have never hauled anywhere else.
#1 to be a tire cop one does not have to be able to drive a truck or a certified mechanic, but are "trained" to do roadside inspections on commercial vehicles.
#2 These same inexperienced government employees are entitled to determine if a load is secure or not,and can issue fines based on their opinion.
#3 It is a fact that not all government scales in BC read the same weight.
#4 When getting a permit for oversize loads, one speaks to a government employee that supposedly knows the rules. Yet a CVSE enforcer can still give the driver a ticket for no having the right permit.
#5 We have two different rules for drivers. One for 160Km radius from home and over the road. Within the 160 k there is no control or restrictions on driving time, while long haul is severely restricted and monitored. We even use different log boooks.
There is lots more but you should get the idea.
