July 9, 1990, a dump truck carrying 16 metric tons of hot asphalt piled into the waiting line up at the horseshoe bay ferry terminal killing 2 and injuring 5. The 25 year old driver was found guilty of 7 counts of criminal negligence because he did NOT check and adjust his brakes before heading down the hill toward the terminal.

By the way, I have a fu ck of a lot more examples like the first one I posted about unqualified and/or inexperienced truck drivers causing death and mayhem.
The point is JLM, the guy was not mature and competent. Its not surprising given the type of work. Its got a high turnover rate.

The industry has trouble attracting drivers because, contrary to what Boomer says, its just not that attractive. The municipalities I know of pays class 1 drivers $5/hour more than a labourer position. That's why the industry keeps hiring uneducated, untrained and unskilled immigrants.

My Dad drove a logging truck for most of his working life and my son has driven various types of heavy trucks, both logging and in the oil fields. So the profession is not totally foreign to me. These guys are just talking through their a$$ Boom Boom!
