If there's already a ramp, there there should be no need for a 65,000 staircase.

You seem to think that initial estimates are final.

People love to jump on anything that they believe should incriminate the government without looking at all the facts.

And then we get dbags like this who think they are doing something good but just add to the cost.

No wonder we need robots to replace them.

those play structures are deisgned by manufacturers to specific standards and the manufacturers have liability insurance. Show me the engineering drawings of those shitty stairs the old fart built.

You don't seem to understand anything these days.

Have you gone on a hike in a national park? Are the stairs built for hiking trails up to code?

F-ck no but every trail is posted with "use at you own risk" signage.

An up to code staircase with required wheelchair ramp is also use at your own risk just like up to spec play structures.

City, municipal, Provincial and National Parks are all "use at your own risk" and are full of not up to spec pathways and structures.

Is this up to code?

Or use at your own risk?

It's the West Coast Trail BTW

exactly. but people use this shortcut over a bank, so they expect the city to build stairs for them.

So what you're saying is that the City of Toronto would NOT be liable if someone was injured, despite you claiming that the city would be.

Stairs are cheap. Wheelchair ramps required by law to go with stairs are expensive.

They yellow taped it. It's all good.

But just looking at photos of those stairs published in broadcast media and posted by social media users, you can see clearly that the city inspectors are not wrong. The stairs themselves have no concrete foundation, the stringers and railing sit on mud or gravel. The stringers support the stairs only in the middle, not across their length. The handrail is unstable, and it is not anchored to the ground. A series of boxed steps partly filled with wood chips leading up to the stairs present an obvious tripping hazard. The platform at the top of the slope is narrower than the stairs, has no handrail at all and has a large gap in the middle of the two boards it is made of.

A couple of 16ft 2X10 stringers tied to anchors cemented into sonnets with matching railings would have been a vast improvement and well over $2K but it was all about proving a point.

I think M.F. and T.P. are envious because someone else beat them to doing a job they were incapable of, from both the aspects of knowledge and skills. :) :) :)

It doesn't matter about the wheelchair ramp, it's not needed, there is an existing path. It's just that people are too stupid/lazy to use it, and the old fart figured he should be able to tell the city how to run the park.

I want stairs here!
There's a walking path, right over there.
But I want stairs HERE! And I'm going to build them.

Imagine if every idiot did that with roads.

I want a road here, and I don't care if it crosses the 401, i'm gettin' on my dozer and I'm making a road!

The 401 is a park now?

The guy actually made a good point and you follow it up with such a dumb fukking post.

No wonder conbots are getting the boot everywhere.
