Jays memorabilia jumps on eBay

TORONTO - With the Blue Jays back in the ALCS, fans coast to coast are feeling the excitement, and some are filling their online shopping baskets with Jays memorabilia.
Online auction and ecommerce giant eBay Canada has seen a 35% increase in new Jays memorabilia listings since Sunday, when the hometown boys swept the Texas Rangers in the ALDS.
“With all of the activity that occurs every day on eBay, the site can act as a social barometer of trends and pop culture moments, like major sporting events,” eBay Canada spokesman Camille Kowalewski said. “The Toronto Blue Jays are on a hot winning streak, and we see that reflected through fan activity on eBay.”
It appears online-shopping Jays fans have picked Jose Bautista as their MVP, with most of the spending leaning toward Joey Bats memorabilia. Jays legends Joe Carter and Roberto Alomar are also seeing some love.
The site has observed a spike in Jays merchandise since 2015, when Toronto steamrolled into their first postseason in decades.
“Since last year, we’ve seen a 20% year-over-year growth in purchases of Blue Jays items during the regular season,” Kowalewski said.
“Also, last year, from the regular season to the postseason, we saw a 135% increase in daily spending on Blue Jays items by Canadians. In the first 11 days into (this) month, we’re already seeing a 60% increase in daily spending on Blue Jays items by Canadians versus the regular season.”
The site has a page specifically for Jays memorabilia.
Among the items at eBay.ca/rpp/sales-events/baseball (as of Wednesday evening, with prices in Canadian dollars):
  • Relive the Jays’ previous playoff glory with a 1992 Toronto Blue Jays World Series jacket, with an auction price sitting around $1,650.
  • Josh Donaldson’s 2015 MVP campaign was a big reason the Jays made a deep playoff run. This mint-condition 2015 National Treasures Josh Donaldson one of one baseball card is topping $700.
  • Unlike other teams that have already hit the golf course, the Jays are still in it. If golf is your game, you can get a Toronto Blue Jays golf bag for about $365.
  • For the Jays fan who wants to make a fashion statement while out and about, this Dooney and Bourke Toronto Blue Jays handbag is available for around $300.

More money for the Jay's coffers and even less of an excuse for Shapiro not to keep Eddy in the fold with a nice juicy contract that reflects his worth to the team.

Apparently TTC stands for “Take That Cleveland!”
The TTC is now firmly on the Toronto Blue Jays bandwagon.
“Go Jays go” signs are now on display in the windows of the TTC’s streetcars, buses and subway trains.
TTC spokesman Brad Ross said the signs “show the TTC’s deep and abiding love for our Jays.
“Operators are also allowed to don Blue Jays hats on the job. TTC - Take That Cleveland!” Ross said.

Cleveland Indians logo offensive, GTA First Nation group says

TORONTO - The “cartoonish” depiction of First Nations peoples by the Cleveland Indians is disrespectful and wrong, Chief R. Stacey Laforme says.
The Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation (MNCFN), which claims Toronto as part of its treaty lands and traditional territory, issued a statement Thursday calling on the Cleveland MLB franchise to change its name and discontinue any actions that perpetuate stereotypes.
“I know they’ve been sticking to their guns for a long time, probably for commercialization reasons, and probably other reasons,” Laforme said. “But it’s time people that have the opportunity and the position to make change in the countries, it’s time to do that. “
The images used by Cleveland harken back to a painful time and leave young indigenous peoples feeling disrespected and disregarded, he said.
The MNCFN praised Blue Jays announcer Jerry Howarth, who has long refused to refer to sports teams as “Indians” or “Braves.”
Toronto faces off against Cleveland in the first game of the American League Championship Series on Friday.
Laforme said the MNCFN remains open to discussing the issue with the Toronto and Cleveland teams in a positive way. However, he did admit that the Indians inclusion in the ALCS has increased his interest in the series.
“I’m not normally a baseball fan, but there’s no doubt that I’ll be cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays this year,” Laforme said.

TORONTO - It’s not just in Cleveland where the Chief Wahoo logo and Indians name are under siege.
The logo has been banned right here in politically correct Toronto.
Have you ever heard of the junior baseball team once called High Park Braves?
Well, they feel they were forced by the city to drop their name and famous logo over a complaint to the Ontario Human Rights Commission from an activist who had never been to one of their games.
“It did take us by surprise,” Jim Wynnyk — general manager of the AAA team — said of when they were put on notice in March.
“Thank you for agreeing to meet with Ann Ulusoy, director, management services, and myself ... to discuss a recent concern emailed to the city from a member of the public about the use of the Indian (Chief Wahoo) logo on your website for the High Park Junior Baseball Club,” wrote Pat Profiti, a parks department supervisor with the city.
Instead of being patted on the back for decades of helping youth, Wynnyk and field manager Matt MacDonald were summoned to discuss “the portrayal of derogatory aboriginal images and words on sports team logos” thanks to the “Ontario Human Rights Commission” and “City of Toronto’s human rights and anti-discrimination policy.”
The team agreed to change the famous Chief logo to a tomahawk. But that idea was rejected.
Wrote Profiti: “The city urges you to consider whether a reasonable person would likely find the tomahawk symbol derogatory towards aboriginal individuals and not in keeping with the aim of the Human Rights Code and the city’s human rights policy.”
Maybe a condom or syringe would have been more acceptable to them? If only the political-correctness police cared more about the Toronto homicides of all types of Canadians. No, they are worried about a sports team logo.
“It has been our team’s name and logo for 50 years and just like that, we were asked to end that,” said Wynnyk.
“If our team felt we were disrespecting or showing any type of malice, we would disregard the hats Immediately,” he added. “We feel we are showing respect towards their culture.”
It cost more than $60,000 to change the uniforms, from T-ball to junior level. Their logo now has an H and a P (yawn).
“We don’t even play in High Park,” said Wynnyk. “We play at Christie Pits.”
It’s not nice to see a team’s history scrubbed because of a political movement that would be better focused on real issues facing First Nations. Changing the High Park Braves into something nameless and logoless does not help one aboriginal person.
“We never once had a complaint to us directly in a half century of playing baseball in the metro Toronto baseball league,” he said. “And it never occurred to any of us once that we could have been insensitive.”
His players, who range in age from 19-21, are too busy working to obtain American baseball scholarships or to move up and play with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the Intercounty Baseball League to worry about complaints directed at their uniforms.
“So many people are having to bow down to all of this,” said Wynnyk. “The whole thing is ridiculous.”
It’s getting more ridiculous.
In a free society, Ontario’s human rights commissioner doesn’t want journalists to call the Cleveland Indians the Cleveland Indians!
Swear to God.
“Let’s not wait for them to change their names. There are many things we can do in the spirit of reconciliation,” Commissioner Renu Mandhane told National Post reporter Ashley Csanady. “We don’t need to say those names when we’re talking about those teams.”
Yes we do.
The Toronto Blue Jays are playing the Cleveland Indians.
There, I wrote it and will continue to until they are not called that anymore — just like what happened to the High Park whatevers.

Church leaders call on Cleveland Indians to change name, ditch mascot
THE CANADIAN PRESS
First posted: Friday, October 14, 2016 02:39 PM EDT | Updated: Friday, October 14, 2016 02:43 PM EDT
TORONTO - Some church leaders are now calling on the Cleveland Indians to ditch its name and mascot.
The United Church of Canada and the United Church of Christ issued a joint statement urging the baseball team to change its name, calling the move “a small but significant step toward racial justice and reconciliation.”
The churches — whose national offices are in Toronto and Cleveland — also encouraged its members to join the #NotMyMascot campaign on social media.
Pressure from some Canadians opposed to Cleveland’s name and logo has ramped up in recent days as Cleveland prepared to meet the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series.
Broadcasters including Jays announcer Jerry Howarth have vowed to never use the term Indians because it’s offensive to many First Nations people.
Especially contentious is the team’s logo, which features a toothy red-faced character named Chief Wahoo.
“We join together to urge Cleveland’s baseball team to find a new name and a new mascot — ones that do not disrespect the wide and varied histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples,” says Friday’s statement, signed by the United Church of Christ’s Rev. John C. Dorhauer and the United Church of Canada’s Right Rev. Jordan Cantwell and general secretary Nora Sanders.
The United Church of Canada noted it participated in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Indian Residential Schools and was committed to carrying out its call to action.
The churches said they were encouraged by the decision by some sportscasters to refer to the team simply as “Cleveland.”
“This shows a growing level of awareness and a willingness to change that we must all engage in. And so, as the series gets underway this weekend, we urge all members of our churches, no matter whom they cheer for, to cheer justly — and in a spirit of reconciliation.”

Well this is going beyond stupid. What the heck are the Indians supposed to do? Ditch all their unis hours before they are playing in Game 1 of the ALCS? Get real people. Removal of the logo and the name is going to cost the team millions of dollars in replacements fps and frankly they have more on their minds considering they will be facing our Jays in Game 1 of the ALCS today.

Cheer for the Jays and hope they sweep the Cleveland Indians........they will have plenty of time then to talk about your demands.

Hell no, it might be seen as aiding and abetting the enemy. They aren't long on logic.

I borrowed this from the Jay's forum

Pompey and Goins in. Feldman and Smokie are out and Devon is back at 2B

And here's the batting order

Carrera-7
Donaldson-5
Encarnacion-3
Bautista-9
Martin-2
Tulo-6
Saunder-0
Pillar-8
Travis-4

Top of 1rst

Zeke strikes out
JD gets single
Eddy gets double
Joey strikes out.........2 away
Russell to the plate...................and gets a dribbler to first for the last out, stranding JD and Eddy on base

Bottom of 1rst

Santana gets lead-off single against Marco

Infield comes up big for Marco with a double -play - 2 away

Lindor grounds out to first...........3 away..............nice warm-up for Marco

Top of 2nd
Troy at the plate..........goes 2 and 1 then hits a grounder to short - 1 away
Michael up next............goes 2 and 0 then gets a single to right field
Kevin up to bat............3 and 0............takes a strike.......then takes a walk
Devon.......ball 1...........strike......strike 2...........then grounds into a 6,4,3 triple

On the bright side, the bats are at least connecting on Kluber...........if they can just be patient like JD and Kevin.........and not get behind in the count

Bottom of 2nd

Napoli to the plate..........2 and 2............and he grounds out to Eddy at 1rst
Rameriz up..............1 and 2........grounds out to Devon - 2 away
Chisenhall at the plate........and gets a single that slips by both Devon and Tulo
Next batter flies out to Joey in right and Marco gets a little help from his friends again with a fairly easy inning

Buck likes what he sees so far with Marco

Top of the 3rd

Zeke back up..............goes 1 and 2 then bunts but Kluber bare-hands a quick throw to 1rst for the out....that bunt surprised everyone
JD to the plate......and pops out to the SS
Eddy takes a very borderline strike..............Kluber catches him swinging for strike 2.............then Eddy hits one through SS to center for a base hit
Joey takes an inside ball 1..........2 and 0......3 and 0........and Kluber walks Joey on 4 pitches....and is up to 50 so far
Russell up.........takes a strike looking.........wild pitch momentarily gets away from catcher....1 and 1......foul back.....and goes down swinging - 3 away

The Jays have to find a way to get these guys home

Bottom of the 3rd

Marco 2 and 2 on batter..............3 and 2..........and catches him swinging on a high ball - 1 away
2 and 2 on next batter......3 and 2.......then gets him to pop out to Kevin - 2 away
Santana.......finally caught a name.....takes first pitch and pops up JD - 3 away

Kluber has thrown 67 pitches through 3 innings...........I didn't catch Marcos but he's got to be looking good with so many easy outs

Tulo goes behind 0 and 2........fouls away.....1 and 2...and goes down swinging

The problem, for me, with these pitching battles is they make for rather lack-luster innings unless you happen to be a real aficionado of pitching

Top of the 4th

Michael 0 and 2..........and gets one by the 3rd baseman for a nice little single......
Kevin takes strike 1.........1 and 1......and hits one to right that Kipness gets on a dive and the throw to first for the out....nice play......Michael advances to 2nd on the play and into scoring position with 2 out
Devon takes a ball.........then swings through a strike.....1 and 1....broken bat pop up and once again the Jays strand a runner on base

Bottom of the 4th

Kipness working on 1 and 2 fouls away..........and gets caught swinging on a change-up
Lindor goes 2 and 2 then gets a single off a fast ball up the middle
Napoli goes 1 and 1.......misses on a ball over the plate......1 and 2...then flies out to Zeke for 2 away
Jose Rameriz takes a high ball 1............watches strike 1 go by .......goes behind on a foul......then hits a high fly ball to Pillar for the last out

And we are off to the 4th as the battle of the pitchers continues............Marco has a slight edge on Corey via the pitch count though he is not the Marco we saw in Game 1 against the Rangers...........

70 pitches for Corey and 53 for Marco

Top of the 5th

Zeke takes the fist pitch singles to first - 1 away
JD up ...........gets behind 1 and 2.....counts evens 2 and 2.......fouls back......then flies out to shallow center - 2 away
Eddy take first pitch strike........ball 1.......strike 2.........then grounds out.......
It would be nice if someone could get a couple of runs for Marco..........

Bottom of the 5th

Chisenhall gets a lead-off single on Marco's first pitch of the inning
Crisp advances him to scoring position at 2nd on a grounder to Devon - 1 away
Chisenhall to 3rd on a grounder to the mound for the 2nd out at first

Ah..............they are pulling Devon off the field ....he was limping after that last play..........so Ryan is out to replace him
Perez takes strike 1........and beaut of a curve ball for 2 then Marco finishes him off with a fast ball strike 2 and he makes it out of another inning for us guys................guys?............bout time you put up some runs

Top of the 6th

Kluber catches Tulo swinging on a fast ball to end the inning after Michael gets a single with 2 away

Bottom of the 6th

Marco gets the count up on Santana then gets him to ground out to Ryan - 1 away
Kipniss takes 3 balls.........followed by a strike.......and then he takes a walk to first
Pete's on the phone to the bullpen
Lindor takes strike 1........fouls one to the seats.....and hits on over the seats for a 2RBI homer..................oh dear

Marco gets Napoli and Rameriz out.............but as they say, the damage is done.......

Indians 2 - Jays 0

Top of the 7th

So Corey Kluber is off the mound and Andrew Miller is in to replace him..........

Ryan gets behind 2 and 0.........takes a ball inside.....then strikes out for 2 away after Corey retired Michael
Upton to the plate........goes 1 and 2............then evens the count on a ball outside.....but Miller gets him striking out on the next pitch for the last out

I have a feeling we will see Joe sometime in this inning if things don't go well for Marco

Bottom of the 7th

Chisenhall gets a single off the first pitch
Next batter sacrifice bunts to advance runner to 2nd

Brett Cecil up in the bullpen

Marco gets ahead of batter 0 and 2.......then gets out on the next pitch for 2 away ........next batter out of a pop fly to Kevin......no more damage done..........and no Joe.........good for Marco, he could still win this...........hope springs eternal

Top of the 8th

JD ........0 and 1......0 and 2.....fouls one to the stands.....and hits a lead-off single...thata boy JD
Eddy up next.........1 and 0........ball way inside 2 and 0.........2 and 1......and Eddy's bat goes flying into the stands.....................and some poor fan got hit............. and he's called out on strikes and has a few words with the ump......the Gibby comes out and has a few words but they manage to stay in the game.............and they were good pitches Eddy......

2 and 1 on Joey.......3 and 1.............3 and 2.......then he fouls one away......and he goes down swinging for 2 away
Russel at 1 and 1...........1 and 2 on check swing but he couldn't hold up.....2 and 2 that time he held up..................fouled away.....then Miller catches him swinging for the strike 3...........and there's no joy in Jayville after that inning

Bottom of the 8th

Marco is still on the mound

Santana at 2 and 2................and Marco bounces one off the plate and over to the dugout......Santana pops one up to shallow center field for the first out
Kipness up.........and he flies out on the first pitch to Kevin in center field
Lindor goes ahead 3 and 0.........Marco gets luck on a called strike, Lindor misses for strike 2 and gets shut down on the next pitch for the last out
