The only memorial I can think of that could possibly be religious neutral would be a multi-religious memorial. An atheist being offended by a cross is just as ridiculous as a Christian being offended about Jewish symbols.

Funny how that works, eh?
The atheist movement believing that the absence of something has equal and far reaching application to all, ergo, that (ie their belief system) must be adopted by all in the name of an egalitarian system
Maybe a memorial that consisted of an old worn-out T-shirt might suffice... Provided that it non-religious individual wore it at one point
Dear Sister; not you too!
Hey, Muuuum...
Hey, James. I thought Christians were offended by the States' tolerating Muslims?
Yes, I've seen posts and articles like that too. I don't support them. They basically say that they have grown tired of being tolerant of Muslims while citing examples of Muslim atrocities in other countries. I believe they are headed in the wrong direction.
Jesus! No way! Not a wholey holey t-shirt.
I think when we're dead and playing ball for the Saints on the Elysian Fields, we'll all get along, except when there is a referee miscall or piling on.
Is that how you atheists refer to the non-denominational shirt?
... And here I thought that using any term that even, remotely suggested religion was verboten
I'm fairly certain that Spade is not an atheist. Is that how you atheists refer to the non-denominational shirt?

No, I'm amused by the butthurt little boy who equates anybody objecting to something he says or does with it being "forbidden."Awwww... Is widdums offended?
Looks like I gotta make the caller on this one.
‘This cross screams Christianity’:
Jews and Muslims died in this. Would it not be reasonable to state such, a plaque, memorial for those not Christian?
So, that makes them less dead?http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/0...heists-launch-lawsuit-over-ground-zero-cross/
Cheers for telling us that. We would never have known otherwise.
No, it wouldn't be reasonable. America is a Christian country. It's not a Jewish, Muslim, Hindu or Sikh country. It's a country in which 73% of the people are Christians and a half are Protestants.
Of the 9/11 victims, only 15% were Jews and just 5% or so were Muslims.
If everybody is equal, why do you want to deny non-Christians a memorial that reflects their understanding of Gawd?So you can stick your PC "non-Christian" or "non-denominational" memorial. After all, God did create everybody equal and in His own image, no matter what religion they follow.
that is kinda rude, maybe we should do a group hug, and start all over again
The "cross" was not made, it was sticking out of the rubble. It was significant to the rescue workers. It's not like a "Christian lobby group" had it built and put it on display.
I have to take offense at your concept of "judeo-christian" principles. These basic tenets of living together and caring for one another predate christianity or judaism by millenia. The jews and christians do not own these priciples nor did they invent them and they certainly do not have a patent on them. Fact is, like basically everything in christianity, the ideals were stolen from previous religions and incorporated into the new religion simply because it makes it easier to convert people when you bring parts of their prior religion into your new one. Why do you think the Old Testament (a collection of Jewish writings) is included in modern christianity.Seriously? Its crass BS is what it is. Atheists have to take a deep breath and calm down. Honestly. they're being jerks!
Whether they believe it or not, America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and they need to respect that. Their Constitution reflects those beliefs. But even with that, I would have no issue with the various faiths of those who died being represented with symbols of their own.
Instead of bitching about the cross, how about they find their own symbol and negotiate that for the site after they provide evidence of all the atheists that were killed on the site.
