And sometimes the ones who think of themselves as smarter than everyone else are the real losers.......

Sometimes? Lol, what is that expression, "he who thinks he knows everything doesn't realize how little he knows" or words to that effect?

exactly, she has skills he does not, all things being equal, she would not have beaten him...

age matters too... a young woman may well beat an old man even with the skill level being equal

it's all relative

I agree. That's why young women should not be allowed off sinking ships ahead of old and sick men.

hm I don't know, I would let a young woman/man go before me (an older woman) because although I would like to experience a decade or three longer, they have not had the opportunity to experience even the number of years I have, so if I could give them that opportunity I would.

so to me, youth in general should be given a chance not chosen by gender

See I would think the opposite, that the young, typically being stronger and healthier would have a better chance at survival dealing with the elements, but older individuals perhaps not so much. So I'd say elderly and infirm should have first crack along with young children, irrespective of gender, then everyone else.

This all being entirely relevant of course because everyone faces ships going down every day, lol.

yeah, lol hopefully they could send out a fleet to pick ya up long before that sucker would go under...however there was that one Cruise ship were they sat for three or more days in idle water with the food running low and no bathrooms that worked

I was speaking from a personal perspective...I would give my seat to a youth and go down with the ship, I would not however give my seat to some sick elderly old person who may not survive regardless

I would also hope some sick old person would show some courage and do the same

I never had a problem with the idea of the old wandering off to die when tribal food was low. I found it sad, but I've never had a problem with it...

now I would be that old woman set afloat on the ice flow.....lol

Sure but there's a difference between someone wandering off to die so that the remaining could survive and leaving them to die.

Anyway, you could make just about any argument feasible, strength and resilience vs quality of life and potential life span. Personally I wouldn't get on a boat that didn't have a plan in place to get everyone off in case of emergency.

I find myself referring to my wife and daughter sometimes in a sentence
"The girls will pick up the mail on the way home" If that is sexist sorry
but I disagree.

The word "girl" is meant to describe children but is sometimes used affectionately for adults. Same with "boy". There's nothing wrong with that when appropriate. Using affection terms on people you are not affectionate with, however, can be demeaning and context matters. As it happens, our entire society is the context sometimes and men in our society think it's acceptable to infantilize and be affectionate with any and all women. Like how you'd treat children in your family, all women are subject to your familiarity. All women can be seen as immature and needing of paternal dominance.

Unfortunately, the whole sentence that man said is sexist. Not just using the word girl to describe 19 year old, but the whole part of it being shameful to be beaten by a woman. It's akin to telling someone they throw like a girl or that weakness is girlie.

absolutely
it was just a "what if scenario" that he came up with

in such scenarios everyone places different variables into the equation and opines from that stance which pretty much invalidates it all...

just send out the rescue boat k?

Yes it was, and it was a pretty random one too, lol.

But he does love to post rationalize and justify his own less than fair or equitable point of view by placing the blame on 'the other guy'. Or in this case 'gal'.

I'll alert the coast guard personally. ;)
