The Brits show up late with six... SIX... Cold War Era jets and blow up a stalled pick-up truck and think they've defeated ISIS.

"Cold War era" jets that are capable of doing their job perfectly - i.e. blowing up armed pick up trucks. Not one RAF plane has yest blown up a residential area packed full of civilians.

The Americans will never defeat ISIS without the help of the British and the RAF and the SAS and the RN.

New Brit RAF motto...

"There With The Oldest, Least, and Late"

The Brits finally show up and think they defeated ISIS by hitting a stalled civilian pick-up!

"Tally-Ho! Scratch one stalled pick-up!"

I'm proud our missiles are hitting the right targets. Let's just see if the RAF ever bomb civilian areas like the USAF has already done several times.

As is usual, British brains will win the war.

Showing up late with next to nothing and striking stalled pick-ups... yup... sounds like the RAF to me.

Just LOVE reading the comments from the less jaded Brits from your article BL.

I am a huge supporter of what a great job our armed forces are doing especially as they are away from families & friends for many months at a time but i do find it extremely hard to believe that this is the situation it has come to.. We are only able to provide 6 front line aircraft of which we seem to be only flying two aircraft into Iraq,- Chris- Bournemouth

Yes Chris... that's all the RAF can muster and they were late as well!

If we think we're going to win this war by dropping multi-million-£ bombs on Toyota Hilux's, then we are even more deluded than we were in Iraq 1- Mac-Bristol

Right you are Mac. No worries... the world did not expect Brit contribution to be any more than anecdotal.

We're blowing up ISIS.

You're blowing up grain silos packed with civilians.

Just WHO is going to win this war, Britain or America? America won't win it when it's blowing up civilian areas.

Maybe you lot should just stand back and leave it to the professionals. We seem to be the only ones actually hitting ISIS. Blowing up civilian areas is just going to create more ISIS. Trust the bloody Yanks to mess things up.

More comments from the Brits and my responses...

The RAF is really being glorified here. It is clear that the USA led coalition does not rate this country anymore. Vehicles on the side of the road, really is up there with the dam busters raid. It makes a mockery of what the PM said in order to justify our inclusion in this bombing fiasco.- Stretch-Liverpool

Don't be so hard on yourself Stretch. I agree the article is nothing more than glorification of your lack luster RAF but we didn't expect much from the Brits to begin with!

Well that'll show 'em, eh Dave !!!. Don't mess with the Killer or we'll bomb all your sandwich vans !!!!.-Honky-Glasgow UK

LOL! Well put Honky!

Remember that a US aircraft carrier is currently being guarded by a British destroyer. You've had to have a British destroyer guarding your warship. Why aren't you able to provide your own carrier escort?

A Brit destroyer is hanging around the US Sixth Fleet? Damn you guys are desperate to look like you're doing anything!

Will your imaginary aircraft carrier be joining as well?

Back to more comments shall we?

Errm looks like a farmers truck with some machinery on the back, poor guy, a whole new generation of his family now radicalised by us- Pete-London

Looked like it to me as well Pete from London.

I suggest the RAF get every WW2 aircraft they can find in museums etc and deploy them asap complete with period munitions. Then they would be able to do some real damage compared to what they're inflicting now.- Patrick-Leitrim

Good suggestion Pat!

HMS Defender is guarding George HW Bush, YOUR aircraft carrier. Why are you relying on a British destroyer as escort?

Why are you posting comments from a few MailOnline readers? Are they military experts?

This one especially is a gem:

Errm looks like a farmers truck with some machinery on the back, poor guy, a whole new generation of his family now radicalised by us- Pete-London

No, Pete. The truck was an armed ISIS vehicle with a machine gun on the back that was threatening nearby Kurdish troops.

The trouble with MailOnline is that it's now infested with left-wingers who say they hate the Daily Mail but love posting comments to its articles in which, like all good left-wingers, they try to have us believe that they know it all and everyone else is wrong and a bit dim.

So... the brits send half a squadron of old jets and they are destroying ISIS singularly.

The brits send a tin can to one of the three US Carrier Task Forces in the region and the brits are guarding the USS Bush.

LMAO!

Six planes and a destroyer! That's what they sent AND sent them late! That's the Briddish contribution!

They make more sense and have more credibility than you do!

"Old" jets that are massively upgraded with all the latest weaponry.

Destroyers guard aircraft carriers, not vice versa. HMS Defender is defending USS George HW Bush. USS George HW Bush is using a British destroyer as an escort. An American aircraft carrier currently has a British escort.

Why?

Six planes and a destroyer! That's what they sent AND sent them late! That's the Briddish contribution!

There's a destroyer which is guarding a US aircraft carrier; there's the hunter-killer submarine HMS Astute, which is armed with Tomahawk missiles; there are the six Tornado planes, each of which is deadlier than two put together of almost every other nation's fighter jets involved; and then there are the other RAF planes, such as a Voyager and a Rivet Joint, which are also involved in this operation.

To say that there are only six RAF planes involved is not exactly true, is it?

They make more sense and have more credibility than you do!

They certainly do not. As usual, MainOnline is infested with your typical "I-know-better-than-you" lefty who think they're the experts on everything and that everyone else is wrong.

One of them was even wrote a comment saying that the missile fired at that pick-up truck was a Sidewinder rather than a Brimstone missile, as though they know better than the RAF themselves. Thankfully, they were quickly corrected.

And then you had the other eejit saying, in all seriousness, that the vehicle was nothing more than a farmer's vehicle, and that the farmer is now going to be a little unhappy now that it's been destroyed. Of course, he thought, just by looking at a grainy picture, that he knew better than the SAS, who were on the ground marking the targets with lasers for the Tornados to see, just what that vehicle was.

They're your typical holier-than-thou lefties who think they know it all and everyone else are hapless and a little bit dim.

Why Britain's Brimstone missile probably makes the RAF Tornados the deadliest fighter jets in this conflict...

Brimstone: British missile that outguns US

Why the British Brimstone missile being used in Iraq is so sought after - in 60 seconds

The British-made missile is the most sophisticated of its kind being used in the air strike campaign to support Iraqi and Kurdish forces battling the militants

02 Oct 2014
The Telegraph

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIFoLU2vntc&feature=player_detailpage

The British Defence Secretary confirmed that the British armed forces had launched its first air strikes against fighters from the Islamic State group in Iraq on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Defence in London said: "Two Tornado GR4s from RAF Akrotiri conducted an armed reconnaissance mission in support of Iraqi government forces west of Baghdad.

"They were tasked to examine a location suspected of being used as an Isil command and control position. At the scene they were able to identify Isil activity and two vehicles, one of which was an armed pick up truck.

"Four Brimstone missiles were used to conduct a precision attack on the vehicles. Initial analysis indicates that the strikes were successful."

The British Brimstone missile entered service with the RAF in 2005. The US, France and India have expressed interest in buying Brimstone for their aircraft, but Saudi Arabia is currently the only other country to use it

The British-made Brimstone is air-launched ground attack missile used for taking out armoured targets, such as tanks.

It uses a low-powered but highly focused explosive warhead to reduce shrapnel hitting civilians and has a programmable fuse that allows the pilot to decide at what point of impact the bomb explodes.

The Brimstone is capable of hitting moving targets travelling at speeds of up to 70mph and can be launched from an aircraft up to seven miles away from as high as 20,000 feet.

Britain and Saudi Arabia are currently the only two countries that use the Brimstone, which are conservatively estimated to cost £100,000 each

The brits show up late with six antiquated tornadoes and SUPPOSEDLY a brit destroyer joins a US Carrier strike group and suddenly they've saved the world.

And they're late as usual.

The RN can't even protect it's own coast never mind a US Carrier Task Force.

This says it all!

Video: How Britain's strike power compares to America's - in 60 seconds - Telegraph

"The UK's aging Tornado fleet is now 30 years old, while America has a brand new fleet of F-22s fighter jets. Meanwhile, Britain currently has just seven combat-capable air squadrons, compared to 15 for the French air force."

Yeah... thanks for showing up.

And the brits send a destroyer late to the show and BL thinks it is actually making a contribution.

Canadian frigates are assigned to battle groups. Enterprise and HS Truman are two I can name off the top of my noggin. Any Brits riding shotgun on a regular basis?

I never saw the Royal Navy at all when I was in the Marines and I was assigned to an aircraft carrier for a couple of years. The only Royal Navy ship I saw was at Ship Week in NYC.

Now the brits send a destroyer (supposedly) to an already deployed US Carrier Battle Group and BL thinks they actually need it.

Man if I was the Admiral of that Battle Group I would put that Briddish rust bucket 50 Miles off my stern and tell him to keep an eye out for sharks.
